Camp started for the season six weeks after I gave birth to my baby girl. So, needless to say, this summer was unlike any other for me. What remained constant, though, was the overwhelming gratitude I feel for this community and the undeniable reminder that teamwork is what makes the magic of Camp Jabberwocky possible.
Amidst the blur of the summer season (which I often describe as joyfully all-consuming!), I caught myself many times feeling especially grounded by the generosity unfolding around me. One particular day, a slew of new volunteer counselors arrived at Camp for orientation brimming with enthusiasm and fresh energy, friends of Camp were hanging up posters across the Island promoting our upcoming 5K road race, a local nonprofit partner was dropping off donated veggies, and a visiting musician was setting up in the Studio to teach a music class.
This community is built on the diverse talents that bring Camp to life each year. You volunteered, you donated, you cheered, you joined us — you made the joy of Camp Jabberwocky possible. This summer simply wouldn’t have been possible without you. Thank you!
Below are some of the people who volunteered their time either at camp or for camp in some way this year — teaching a class, helping fix something when we were in a pinch, advising on our medical committee and board, washing dishes, showing up early to help with the 5K, spending time at camp as a direct care counselor, and so much more. If you know anyone on this list, please join me in thanking them and consider making a donation in their honor!
Gratefully,
Hilary Dreyer
