It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and longtime board member, Linda Hinckley.

Linda gave 26 years of her life to Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity. She served in many capacities to include board President, Vice President, Treasurer and most recently Board Secretary. But Linda’s most loved service was as a member of the Family Selection Committee, meeting and helping our economically challenged community members work toward homeownership. Whatever needed to be done, Linda put her heart and soul into it.

Linda's LOVE for Habitat was truly UNMATCHED. Her dedication, kindness, and love for helping others touched our Habitat family and the families we serve. She was more than a board member—she was our friend and a treasured part of our mission.

We are forever grateful for the time, love, and energy she gave so freely. Her impact will continue through the work she helped make possible, and she will live in our hearts forever.

Please keep Linda’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Linda. Thank you for everything. You will be deeply missed and always remembered. ❤️

A safe place to call home can change a family’s future. 👣

Habitat for Humanity’s new global report, Home at What Cost?, shares the voices of more than 30,000 people across 22 countries. What they shared should make all of us stop and think.

Three out of four people surveyed have cut back on other expenses just to afford housing. Some are spending less on food. Others are using their emergency savings or putting off medical care. Nearly half worry that one unexpected problem could put their housing at risk.

Think about that. A car repair. A missed paycheck. An illness. Something many of us have faced could be the very thing that leaves a family wondering how they will keep a roof over their heads.

And here in the United States, 42% of people who do not own a home believe they never will.

We want to help change that for families right here in Cumberland County.

At Habitat for Humanity of Cumberland County, our work is about more than building houses. It is about helping a parent breathe a little easier. Giving a child a safe place to sleep, study and grow. Helping a hardworking family build a future they once thought was out of reach.

But we cannot do it alone.

If you are a local resident, please consider giving your time as a volunteer or making a donation.

If you own a business, consider sponsoring our work, donating materials or bringing your team out to volunteer.
Whatever you can offer helps us move another family closer to homeownership.

We are only as strong as the community in which we live.

When we come together, we can open doors for our neighbors and give more Cumberland County families a place to call their own.

Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity had a wonderful opportunity to visit OLMA Academy in Newfield, NJ, where we were invited to share with the young ladies what Habitat for Humanity is all about and the work we are doing right here in Cumberland County.

CEO Bill Gonzalez and Executive Director Rob Johnson spoke with the students about our mission, the importance of affordable homeownership, volunteering, community involvement, and how Habitat brings people together to help families build a better future.

The girls were an amazing audience! They listened, participated, and answered Habitat trivia questions for some small prizes as our way of saying thank you for welcoming us.

But the experience didn’t end when our presentation was over.

After we left, the students took time to decorate 2x4 boards with artwork, messages, Bible verses, and words of encouragement. These aren’t just pieces of lumber — these boards will actually become part of our Habitat home currently being built in Carmel, NJ!

That means a little piece of OLMA Academy, along with the encouragement and creativity of these students, will forever be part of a local family’s new home.

We want to sincerely thank the students, faculty, and staff of OLMA Academy for inviting Cumberland Habitat into your school and for becoming part of our mission.

Experiences like this are a great reminder that building homes is about so much more than construction — it’s about community, hope, and people coming together to make a difference.

Never Forget.

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was changed forever. We remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families who still carry that absence, and the first responders who ran toward danger.

On this 25th anniversary, Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity pauses in gratitude and prayer. The work of rebuilding homes and communities is one way we honor those who gave everything—and those who still serve.

We will never forget.
