American Legion Post 70
Villa Rica, GA 30180 Let us remember and never forget their sacrifice.

"Those who have served, and those currently serving in the uniformed services of the United States, are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been tainted by the bitterness of personal sacrifice. We are compelled to never forget that while we enjoy our daily pleasures, there are others who have endured and may still be enduring the agonies of pain, deprivation and imprisonme

nt. Let us pray to the Supreme Commander that all of our comrades will soon be back within our ranks. May God forever watch over them and protect them and their families."

To obtain a deceased veteran's DD-214, the next of kin can request it from the National Archives' National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). You'll need to provide proof of the veteran's death, such as a death certificate or obituary.

Here's how to request the DD-214!

1. Online Request:
Use the National Archives' online eVetRecs system to create a customized request form.

2. Mail Request:
Complete the GSA Standard Form 180 (or use a letter) and mail it to the NPRC.

3. Contact the NPRC:
You can also reach out to the NPRC via their website, by phone, or in person.

4. Proof of Death:
Provide proof of the veteran's death, such as a copy of their death certificate, a letter from the funeral home, or a published obituary.

Important Considerations:

Next of Kin:
Only the next of kin (surviving spouse, children, parents, siblings) can request a full military service record if the veteran passed away.

Timeframe:
The National Archives opens records to the public 62 years after discharge.

Limited Information:
If the discharge was less than 62 years ago, you might only be able to request limited information without the veteran's consent.

Records Open to Public:
Records of "Persons of Exceptional Prominence" (PEP) are sometimes opened to the public sooner, after 10 years of death.

Certified Copies:
You can get a certified copy of your DD-214 from your county court house.
