Fall is just around the corner, and our Senior center community garden has been cleaned out with the help of Will Orr. Collard greens and beets have been planted along with freshening it up with some fertilizer.

Our club was honored to help with the Carroll County Homor Flight: Mission 1 hosted by Impact West GA. It was months in the making and our members supported the flight in a variety of ways. It was truly a blessing to be a part of this trip of a lifetime and welcome these Heroes back home last night since many didn’t get that opportunity when serving their country. These Veterans are from the Carroll County area and flew to Washington DC to see the War Memorials, visit Arlington National Cemetery, and be among other Heroes to share stories. If you see a Veteran today, thank them for sacrificing their lives protecting our freedoms. 🇺🇸

We were honored to make a donation to Mrs. Ronda Nave at Ithica Elementary School, who is starting an after-school club called Creative Explorers, designed for 3rd-5th graders.

This club will meet once a month, with a different theme each meeting. The goal of the club is to give students the chance to explore their creative side, try something new, build confidence, and to create something to be proud of.

If you have a student in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade at Ithica Elementary who would like to join the Creative Explorers club or for more information, please contact Mrs. Nave at [email protected].

VR Lions Marsha Farrow and Stacey Orr attended the American Council of the Blind Conference in St Louis this week learning about new technology, advocacy, and connecting with others living with blindness or low vision. Two highlights include Marsha being presented an award for serving 20 years on the ACB auction committee and Stacey met with Apple, Inc engineers to address issues with IOS products to help make the devices and apps more accessible. They both got to connect with Leader Dogs for the Blind at the exhibit hall and it was great talking with them!

Sometimes the smallest acts of service can have a meaningful impact.

When our Villa Rica Lions Club recently picked up donated eyeglasses from Georgia Vision Institute for our eyeglass recycling program, they also had three American flags that were ready to be respectfully retired.

We were honored to bring the flags to our July meeting and pass them along to our member, Richard Stone of Jones-Wynn Funeral Homes & Crematory. As part of their cremation services, Jones-Wynn respectfully retires American flags with Veterans whose final wish is to be cremated—a beautiful way to honor both our nation’s flag and those who served.

If you have a worn or damaged American flag that is ready to be retired, you can place it in the flag retirement collection boxes located in front of both Jones-Wynn Funeral Home locations in Villa Rica and Douglasville. Your retired flag will be handled with the dignity and respect it deserves while helping honor a Veteran.

Thank you to Georgia Vision Institute for thinking of us, and to Richard Stone and Jones-Wynn Funeral Home for providing this meaningful service to our community. 🇺🇸❤️
