The Villa Rica Lions Club was honored to partner with the Abraham Baldwin Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Casimir Pulaski Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, to purchase, plant, and dedicate a Liberty Tree at Gold Dust Park in Villa Rica.

We are grateful to the many city and county officials who joined us for last week’s dedication ceremony, as well as the members of the Villa Rica Veterans Association whose presence helped make the event especially meaningful.

Our ceremony began with Bob Miller, Retired Navy, playing patriotic music on the bagpipes, Zachery McCord, senior at Villa Rica High School lead our National Anthem and Ithica Elementary Second grader, Rhett Harris, lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. State Senator Tim Bearden was our special guest speaker whose ancestor, Gabriel Smith, is one of Carroll County’s 17 Patriots who served in the American Revolution.

Liberty Trees played an important role during the American Revolution as gathering places where patriots came together in support of freedom and self-government. It is our hope that this tree will serve as a lasting reminder of the liberties we enjoy, the sacrifices made to secure them, and the importance of preserving those freedoms for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special community project possible as we commemorated the City of Villa Rica and Carroll County’s 200th Anniversaries and the approaching 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.

The Villa Rica Lions Club was honored to join family, friends, community leaders, and citizens in celebrating the dedication of a portion of a Villa Rica roadway in honor of Dr. Larry Boss.

For many years, Dr. Boss faithfully served the people of Villa Rica as a family physician, caring for generations of families while also giving countless hours of service to our community.

As a longtime member of the Villa Rica Lions Club, he has exemplified the Lions motto, “We Serve,” through decades of leadership, compassion, and dedication to others.

We extend our sincere thanks to Senator Tim Bearden for hosting this special event and to Lions Monroe Spake, Randy Boyd, and Clint Chance for their efforts in helping organize this well-deserved recognition.

We are especially grateful to Dr. Boss and his wife, Jane, for their passion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to making Villa Rica a better place. Their impact on our community will be felt for generations to come.

Congratulations, Dr. Boss, on this well-earned honor!

For those who have never seen the game of Goalball, it is an incredible sport for blind and low vision people and a Paralympic sport. Here is a video of the Atlanta team competing. Douglas County resident Christopher Morgan is #7 on the orange team.

The Villa Rica Lions were proud to volunteer at the Georgia Blind Sports Southeast Goalball Tournament this weekend!

Ashley served as a timekeeper, while Stacey helped keep score as teams from across the United States came together to compete in this exciting and inspiring event. Goalball is a unique sport designed specifically for athletes with visual impairments, and it was an honor to support these incredible competitors. We were able to support Douglas County native Christopher Morgan’s Atlanta team, and they WON!

We also enjoyed reconnecting with fellow Lions from our district, including Hal Simpson and Fran Schefer. Events like these remind us of the impact Lions make through service and our commitment to supporting the blind and visually impaired community.

Thank you to Georgia Blind Sports for allowing us to be a small part of such a fantastic tournament!

Today, the Villa Rica Lions Club was honored to join the Villa Rica Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-Off Program!

Our volunteers provided free vision screenings for 78 children and made 10 referrals for further evaluation. Early detection can make a big difference, and we're grateful for the chance to serve our community.

It was great to see so many families enjoying the event, exploring books, and signing up for the summer reading challenge.

Thank you to the Villa Rica Public Library for inviting us and to everyone who stopped by for a screening. We look forward to continuing to serve our community. Our screening team had a blast!

Have you seen the community garden at the Senior Center?

Villa Rica High School student Zachary McCord and Lion Kennadi Smith are doing a great job taking care of the garden, keeping it in pristine condition and ready for harvest.

We have heard that many have enjoyed the produce from the garden and have been able to include fresh vegetables in their meals.

Stop by and check it out!
