Emmaus United Church of Christ A progressive, open Christian Community! Sunday Service is at 10 AM in person or online on YouTube.

Emmaus UCC is a progressive, open and welcoming Christian congregation that celebrates the diverse theological beliefs of its members. We are a warm and supportive community for people committed to exploring what it means to have a personal relationship with God. Rooted in Judeo Christian traditions, we provide opportunities to hear God speak through the words of a wide range of teachers. We strive to learn from each other and to care for one another. Our actions, as a congregation and as individuals, reflect our belief that God is still speaking in the contemporary World. We believe it is our mission to strive for truth, justice and peace and that we are instruments for God’s love in the world, ministering to the needs of all.

Historical Tidbits of Emmaus have been shared with the congregation over the last few weeks in celebration of our 60th anniversary. Last week it was about our Church sign out by the road of Rt 123 that may be of interest to the wider Vienna community.
It took much more than bricks, mortar and dedicated church members to have it installed. It was a long road that included negotiations to change a town ordinance of allowing church signs to be 36 feet instead of 18. Because of one of our members, now deceased, inviting other area local churches which were interested in the same, the revision to the town ordinance was approved in late 1995 after following all the standard public review process. It took another two years for the sign to be designed and built by a member of Emmaus, Falls Church architect Robert Beach, who designed the sign replicating Emmaus’ church roof line and using bricks from the building of the new sanctuary which was dedicated in 1990. The sign was dedicated in April 1997 during Rev David Gaewski’s ministry with us. Monies used to fund the project came from one of the church's designated Memorial Funds.
The sign is an outreach and invitation to the community to visit us. One side of the sign includes the time of worship; the other side shares upcoming events, messages of outreach with sometimes catchy sayings which helps to define who and whose we are, and share our extravagant welcome. Because the effect of time and weather on the brick of the sign is showing, a team of dedicated volunteers is planning to address these concerns.

Emmaus UCC had a beautiful weekend of celebrating its 60th year anniversary with tents put up to accommodate the activities for a dinner, music, fellowship and building a food labyrinth with food to go to CHO and the Little Food Pantry. Previous members came from CA, SC, NC, GA, NY, NJ, PA , Southern VA to join us for the celebration. How blessed we were with only sprinkles of rain that did not last long on Saturday night. Our 60th Jubilee definitely reflected the light of yesterday, today and tomorrow!

Gathering of the Waters
Sunday, September 13th during worship, 10 a.m.
Please bring water from, or that represents, your summer. Maybe it's from your travels, maybe it's from your backyard hose. We will gather them in our annual ritual as we recommit to being a community and welcome a new programmatic year. This water is the water we use to celebrate baptism.
