Potomac Mountain Club We are the Potomac Mountain Club, formerly the Mountaineering Section of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. www.potomacmountainclub.org

PMC has been the premier rock climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering club serving the DC area since 1937. Founded on Oct. 31, 1937, on a Potomac Appalachian Trail Club trip for the club's rock climbers to Bull Run Mountains. This became PATC-MS's first official outing and serves as the Mountaineering Section's birthday.

It's ROCKTOBER 👻 and PMC has some awesome October events planned to get out there while the leaves are crisp.

Winter is coming! And so is ASW -- our annual Alpine Skills Weekend up in New Hampshire! ⛏️❄️

This INCREDIBLE event is offered to our members every year for those new to mountaineering and interested in learning winter skills. You will be guided by our mentors on how to camp and hike in winter conditions, and learn skills such as walking in crampons and using an ice axe. And, weather permitting, you'll attempt a winter Mt. Washington summit with experienced mentors!

If you are interested, there is no winter experience necessary for this event. However, it is a coveted event, and there is limited space. Members can apply via the PMC website in order to be considered for a spot -- you'll receive a google form link once you register to fill out the application. Registering does not guarantee you a spot! Applications are due by October 2 @ 8pm EST! Go get 'em!

☔️Rain happens sometimes... and we want our brand new climbers to have a good experience on the wall!

We've rescheduled our New Climber's Day to September 27. Same time, same event! Just hopefully better weather! As a reminder, this event is for brand new climbers & people who have hardly climbed outside -- it is not one of our regular club Carderock climbs.

Here's a Q&A full of FYI's.

Q: If I was already registered, what do I need to do?
A: You should have received an email with the new event details and a google form if you registered for the origina event.

Q: What if my new climber friends want to come to the new date and they weren't originally registered?
A: The more the merrier! As long as they are brand new outdoor climbers, you can have them fill out the form!

Q: Do I need to sign a new waiver?
A: Only if you didn't sign the original event waiver!

It's always a great pleasure to stand on top of Seneca, and especially if it's your first time! New Trad Climber's Weekend was a major success, with several experienced members showing members the ropes with their first follow up Seneca!

Huge shoutout to Seneca Rocks Climbing School, Arc'teryx, Arc’teryx New York, and The Gendarme for supporting this epic weekend.

Do you have a friend or family member who's always wanted to try climbing, but has no idea where to begin?

Bring them to this event! It's free, requires NO indoor or outdoor experience, and is run by experienced climbers who will provide your friends and family with harnesses, helmets and a top rope already set up for you.

PMC members, register your friends and family on the website and sign up to help belay by joining the Whatsapp channel!
