We are super thankful for for their amazing program. Together we were able to provide yet another 100 meals to individuals experiencing homelessness. Although the weather was 101 degrees 🔥 our team continues to help our unhoused individuals. Fun Fact! Did you know our outreach efforts are all volunteer based, with food and hygiene kits supported by businesses and individuals. If you would like to volunteer or donate reach out to us at [email protected]. Everything and anything helps! Including liking this post! 💙

Trust and consistency. Our team makes it a priority to treat each individual we meet with the dignity that they deserve. Within the past year working with our neighbors in Long Beach, we have been able to form connections and build rapport to allow these vulnerable individuals to trust and engage with our team.

It all started with a drive...

Picture this, driving down 6th Street in Downtown LA area in you Chevy Volt, heading to hear AOC speak. We have driven throughout the City of LA all of the numerous times. We have seen the amounts of trash in the streets, the amounts of needles on the sidewalks, the endless tents, the homeless individual asking for money, the person sleeping on the sidewalk, the every day LA sight.

However, for some reason, as Cassandra (Co-Founder) and I drive down 6th Street it really bothered us to see the amount of trash littered on the streets and sidewalk. For some reason this time, out of all the times, this time we wanted to do something about it.

I looked over to Cassandra and asked her, what if we clean it? What if we clean it up? What is stopping us? She looked over to me and said “Besides the possibility of getting a ticket or LAPD getting mad at us nothing really.”

This was the inception of our organization. Searchlight Society was started to help make a change, to look at a problem, provide a solution, enact that solution, and learn from it.
