During the summer months, children become more vulnerable to delayed reporting of abuse because they no longer have daily access to trusted school professionals such as teachers, school counselors, and student resource officers. That means summer youth staff and volunteers are often standing in the gap for our children.
Not only are many youth workers mandated reporters, but they also play a critical role in recognizing signs of abuse and knowing how to respond appropriately.
In Texas, 1 in 6 children will experience sexual abuse before the age of 18. It truly takes a community to protect our children, and education is the first step in prevention.
Hope of South Texas Childrenβs Advocacy Center will be hosting a FREE training on Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse for Vacation Bible School staff, summer camp workers, volunteers, and community members.
