E-Bike and E-Scooter Safety

A quick guide for community members to stay safe and informed.
Brought to you by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

• Laws to Follow
E-Bikes and E-Scooters are granted all of the rights and are subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a motor vehicle and the rider of a bicycle.

• Helmet Rules
Helmets are not always required but are recommended. However, helmets are required for 16 and 17-year-olds operating an E-Scooter.

• Age Requirement
Operators of E-Bikes and E-Scooters must be at least 16 years old.

• Passengers
E-Bike operators may carry passengers.

• Local Authority
Operating an E-Bike or E-Scooter is not uniform throughout NYS as cities and towns have extensive local authority, including ability to prohibit E-Bikes or E-Scooters, require helmets, or wear reflective clothing. Consult with your local jurisdiction for questions.

• Bike Lane Use
E-Bikes and E-Scooters are required to use bike lanes wherever possible, and cannot operate on roads with speed limits of over 30 mph.

• Trail Regulations
When operating on trails or bike paths, consult with your local municipal or park authorities on their regulations, as they may differ.

• No Sidewalks
You cannot operate E-Bikes or E-Scooters on sidewalks except as authorized by local law or ordinance.

• Single File
E-Bike operators must ride in single file and cannot double up as traditional bicycles can.

• Lighting Requirement
E-Bikes are required to have a front white light and a rear red light after sunset.

With warmer weather, OCSO has had increased calls regarding E-bikes and E- scooters. Above are current laws governing e-bikes and e-scooters and their correct use and operation. OCSO encourages safe and proper use and storage of these bikes. Any and all questions can be submitted to OCSO by phone or through the contact form on our website.

Friendly reminder to parents of 3rd graders — tonight from 6:30–7:30 PM is VIS Sneak Peek Night!

Come visit the school your student will be attending next fall and help them get familiar with their new surroundings before the big transition.

After you finish exploring, stop by the playground and grab a popsicle compliments of Victor PTSA! We look forward to seeing you there! 🍦

VPS Families & Volunteers — we need your help!

As we prepare for VPS Field Days on June 16th & 17th, we are looking to upgrade some of the equipment and supplies used during these fun-filled events. Many of the items we currently use have been hand-me-downs for years, and we would love to refresh our collection with durable items that can be used for many field days to come.

Please consider donating an item from our SUG list if you are able. The links included provide pricing from online sources — simply copy and paste the links into your search bar.

If donating is not possible at this time, sharing this post would mean so much and help us spread the word!

Thank you for supporting our students and helping make VPS Field Days extra special!

Also, keep an eye out — a separate SUG with volunteer opportunities for Field Days will be coming soon!

📬✉️ Wee Deliver is still underway at VPS!

Our student-run post office has been such a fun and meaningful experience for students, giving them the chance to write, sort, and deliver mail throughout the school. We love seeing the excitement this program brings to our building! 💙💛

There’s still time to get your letters and notes in, so be sure to send some kind words to friends, classmates, teachers, or staff before the program wraps up!

Interested in helping? We are always grateful for parent volunteers! If you’d like to assist with Wee Deliver, please check with your student’s teacher about signing up — staff members have access to the volunteer Google Form.

Thank you for helping make this special VPS tradition possible! ✨
