Ten years ago, Matt Zaborowski presented his first research poster as a pre-dental student at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)Annual Conference. This week, he returns to the same conference as the ASTDD Foundation's President & CEO and Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors - ASTDD's Executive Director, with a shared exhibit table representing both organizations.

It's a fitting picture of what the Foundation exists to do — close the distance between a student at a poster board and the leaders shaping this field's future. Investing in oral health leadership means investing in people long before their titles catch up to their potential, through mentorship, education, and the kind of support that turns a first poster presentation into a career spent strengthening public health systems.

Kevin Thomas is a lifelong dental industry leader and co-president of Elevate Oral Care. His board service with organizations such as the Children’s Dental Health Project, Oral Health America, Dental Trade Alliance Foundation, and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation reflects his long-standing commitment to expanding access to preventive oral health care, supporting public health innovation, and tackling complex challenges facing oral health programs nationwide.

Say hello to Rachel Sizemore, DDS, MHSA, Treasurer of both the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors - ASTDD and ASTDD Foundation, Inc. Boards (2026–2027).

Dr. Sizemore is the State Dental Director for the Arkansas Department of Health's Office of Oral Health. In her state leadership role, she oversees statewide oral health surveillance, prevention initiatives, and community partnerships focused on reducing disparities and improving access to evidence-based care.

She brings frontline clinical experience, program management expertise, and a strong commitment to data-driven decision-making to her national service, helping guide ASTDD’s strategic priorities, fiscal stewardship, and systems-focused efforts to advance oral health.

We're delighted to introduce Nashon Hornsby, JD, LLM, who serves as a Director on the ASTDD Foundation Board (2026–2028).

Nashon currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of the Population Health Branch at the New Jersey Department of Health, drawing on more than 20 years of state service in health policy, family health, health promotion, and oral health, including leadership of Oral Health Services and community health initiatives that expand access to prevention and care for children, families, and underserved communities.

A long-standing partner to ASTDD and state oral health leaders, Nashon is honored to support the launch of the ASTDD Foundation, bringing his commitment to health equity, cross-sector collaboration, and system-level solutions that strengthen oral health for all New Jerseyans and communities nationwide.

We are excited to introduce Shelley Guinn, RDH, MPH, Secretary of both the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors - ASTDD and ASTDD Foundation Boards.

Shelley is the State Oral Health Program Coordinator at the Washington State Department of Health. In her state role, she provides technical assistance, promotes school-based prevention strategies such as dental sealants and fluoride varnish, and partners with organizations, coalitions, clinics, and schools to expand access to oral health services across Washington.

With more than two decades of experience spanning clinical dental hygiene, Head Start program coordination, nonprofit leadership, and state public health, Shelley brings deep expertise in program development, budgeting, grant management, and community partnership building.
