It’s hard to believe Gracie is two years post heart transplant. In some ways, it feels like just yesterday… and in other ways, it feels like a lifetime ago.

We carry so much gratitude for her donor’s family — for saying yes in the midst of unimaginable grief. Their selfless gift gave our daughter life. We pray for them often and honor her donor in everything we do.

We are endlessly thankful to God for His precious gift of Gracie and the miracle of her hero heart.

We also cannot thank the medical staff enough at Mott who loved our daughter like their own and took care of her wonderfully.

Gracie has grown into doing things we once dreamed of. She went from spending most of her first two years in the hospital to going to preschool, working so hard in her therapies, becoming a big sister (still working through a little toddler jealousy — but we know she’ll grow into the best big sis ❤️🤪), and participating in so many everyday activities we once weren’t sure would ever be possible.

To everyone who has followed along — Gracie’s Gang — thank you. Thank you for your love, your prayers, your encouragement, and your support over the years.

Gracie will be heading to Ann Arbor this Friday for a heart catheter. It’s hard to believe she’s just over a month away from being two years post-transplant (2/29/24)!

We know we haven’t shared an update in a while, but that’s because we’ve been busy enjoying life. Over Christmas break, we spent time in Florida—beautiful weather, lots of sunshine, and Gracie absolutely loved the pool.

She continues to thrive in her school program and has been having fun-filled weekends. We’re also very happy to report that she has largely stayed healthy. Gracie is still working hard on her speech; while she doesn’t have many words just yet, we are very confident that more will come soon.

Thank you all for your continued prayers, love, and support—it truly means more than we can say. 💛

It’s been a while since we’ve shared an update on our sweet Gracie girl, so here we go! 💛

Gracie is still absolutely loving her school program. She’s been working so hard and learning so many new things. Big milestone this month: she started taking the bus! 🚍She enjoys every ride, and the extra safety features give us so much peace of mind.

She continues to give her all in therapy whenever she’s able to go. With her school schedule (and mom and dad both working full-time), she doesn’t get to go as often as we’d like — but she lights up when she’s there. She still doesn’t have many words yet, but she’s working incredibly hard in speech, and we’re definitely seeing progress!

Gracie is still 100% G-tube fed, though we offer oral tastes when we can. She’s not very interested in much beyond water right now, but we know her curiosity will grow in her own time.

Healthwise, she’s been doing amazing — just a few minor illnesses these past few months and no hospital stays. We are so proud of her and so, so grateful.

Every day, we’re thankful for her incredible medical team at Mott, and forever grateful for the donor family who said “yes” in a moment of unimaginable grief. Their decision continues to give our girl the chance to thrive. 💙💛

We are excited to share Gracie has NO signs of rejection! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! She is excited to go back to school next week after taking the week off to prepare for her cath and to “rest” (not that that is what she did!)

Enjoy this cute video of our Neighbor taking Gracie for a spin on her new toy!

What a summer it’s been for Grace!
It’s hard to believe it’s already flown by, but with school starting this Tuesday, we’re so excited to see all the new milestones she'll reach this year!

This summer has been filled with fun and relaxation. From swimming and splash pad days, to riding around on the golf cart and cruising around on her pink tricycle, Grace has enjoyed every moment. We also had the privilege of participating in the West Michigan Congenital Heart Walk for the children’s heart foundation, which was such a great experience!
It’s been a peaceful summer with fewer doctor’s appointments — a welcome change — and Grace has been working hard in therapy, showing progress with her sessions. Watching her grow is always a joy!
As we look ahead to the school year, we’re excited for Grace to be surrounded by her peers. We know the social connections will help her continue to thrive, both academically and emotionally.
In a couple of weeks, Grace will have her next heart catheter to check on her "hero heart" ❤️. It's been since mid-May, so we’re eager for the results and would greatly appreciate all your positive thoughts and prayers.
Thank you all for your unwavering support — it means the world to us!
