United Way of Broome County

United Way of Broome County Give. Advocate. Volunteer. LIVE UNITED. In 1973, the name United Way of Broome County was adopted.

In Broome County, the "united" concept of helping people dates back to at least 1918 with the formation of the Binghamton United Relief Organization. In 1954, three separate organizations serving Binghamton, Endicott, and Johnson City were combined into a single countywide organization, Broome County United Fund. Nationally, the organization now known as United Way began in the 1880s in Denver, Co

lorado, as an effort to consolidate fund raising activities among local charities. Today there are about 1,300 individual United Ways in the United States.

Happy National Mascot Day! 🐴⚾️

Today, we’re giving a special shoutout to two of Broome County’s favorite mascots, Rowdy and Ruby of The Binghamton Rumble Ponies!

Not only do they bring energy, excitement, and smiles to every game, but the entire Rumble Ponies organization continues to be an incredible community partner. We are grateful for their ongoing support of United Way of Broome County and their commitment to making a positive impact throughout our region.

Thank you, Rowdy, Ruby, and The Binghamton Rumble Ponies for helping bring our community together both on and off the field! 💙

Yesterday was an insightful day💡

United Way of Broome County was join by United Way New York State, The Office of Senator Lea Webb, and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo to discuss the new ALICE report for the state of New York.

ALICE stands for Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed.

In Broome County, 43% of households fall below the ALICE threshold.

We thank Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Senator Lea Webb, and United Way New York State for highlighting the difficulties that ALICE households are facing, and pledging to continue working on strengthening our social safety net services.

Cooling centers are here!

As temperatures rise, it’s important to stay safe and cool. Broome County has designated cooling centers throughout the community, including libraries, senior centers, parks, pools, and recreation facilities where residents can find relief from the heat.

A cooling center is a public space with air conditioning, swimming, or other cooling resources available to help prevent heat-related illness.

View the full list of 2026 Cooling Centers below and share this resource with someone who may need it.

The Discovery Center is proud to host a donation box in our lobby for the 3rd Annual Sneaker Drive for Kids, a wonderful initiative byFOX 40 News WICZ-TV and the United Way of Broome County to provide brand-new sneakers to local children in need.

Now through July 24, you can support the drive by dropping off a pair of new sneakers right here in our lobby. Thank you for helping us step up for our community's kids ahead of the August 8th distribution day!

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. 💙

At United Way of Broome County, Youth Opportunity is one of our four key pillars because we believe every young person should have access to the resources, support, and experiences they need to succeed.

That's why we proudly fund 16 programs across Broome County that help youth build confidence, strengthen academic achievement, develop life skills, and create brighter futures.

When you give to United Way, you're investing in local children and helping create pathways to success for the next generation.
