Liberty in North Korea at Binghamton University

Liberty in North Korea at Binghamton University We are a Binghamton University student group dedicated to aiding refugee rescues and resettlement eff

We believe that it is a moral and humanitarian imperative for us to rescue refugees that have escaped from the oppressive regime in North Korea by fleeing to China and the rest of Asia. The men, women and children who escape the Kim Regime, face the brutal and all-too often tangible risk of being discovered and sent back to their homeland, where they and their relatives face detention, torture, po

litical prison, and ex*****on. None of our efforts in aiding the expatriates who defy the North Korean Government can be of any plausible benefit unless the public perception of North Korea changes from politics to people; this will then bring awareness to the deplorable living conditions, lack of socio-economic mobility, social discrimination, and rampant poverty that North Korean people have to face in their everyday lives and will allow concerned citizen in communities from around the world to generate a positive change.

Presenting our newest sticker sheet starring Squid Game’s Kang Sae-Byeok!

강새벽 (Kang Sae-Byeok) is characterized as a North Korean defector who successfully escaped North Korea with her younger brother and strives to reunite with her mother in South Korea.
In order to collect the funds to support her younger brother and pay a broker to bring her mother over, she joins the 33rd 오징어 게임 (Squid Game) as player 067.
Sae-Byeok’s resilience and unwavering determination reflect the character of many real-life defectors. Although Sae-Byeok is fictional, the back story she holds is very much based in reality.

To learn more about Sae-Byeok and how the Squid Game portrays South Korea, check out the links below.

Why LiNK?
At what’s left of the Berlin Wall, I saw photos of East Germans who died trying to cross it. I now think about how many NK citizens are vulnerable to such needless pain and loss, and why Korea never woke up from its Cold War nightmare. Until all of Korea is free and its DMZ becomes a relic, I want refugees from the North to be safe, free, and heard.

Introducing our Secretary, Max!

Year: Sophomore
Fun Fact: I have two labradors from the Bahamas
Why LiNK? : Escaping from North Korea is incredibly tough and it doesn’t happen very often. I joined LiNK because those who are escaping from North Korea need all the help they can get and this is just my small contribution.

Introducing our Treasurer, David!

Year: Senior
Fun Fact: I can juggle
Why LiNK? : I think we in the USA are very lucky to live in a society where our human rights are protected, however, there are many people in the world who do not have these same rights. I joined LiNK because I think the North Korean people deserve access to freedom and human rights. I joined LiNK because I appreciate the work that they do and I want to be able to do my part to help the North Korean people.

Introducing our amazing Director of Research, Eliza!

Year: Senior
Fun Fact: I have three German shepherds
Why LiNK? : I think we all have a responsibility to help other people live the lives we take for granted, where they have agency over their decisions and the freedom to exercise all of their human rights. The work we do is a small step in making that happen, one person at a time.

First up we have our Outreach Chair, Claire!

Year: Senior
Fun fact: My sister's black cat Eugene is named after Eugene Levy's thick eyebrows
Why LiNK? : Having familial connections to the north, my interest in North Korea deepened and I wanted to learn more about North Korean stories through a non-US centric lens. Also, LiNK always manages to create the funniest and most dynamic e-board every year, so you'll make the most amazing memories being part of LiNK.
