If you are concerned about possible eviction or shutoffs due to unpaid utility bills, the City of Versailles will continue to support those needs for its residents who qualify. Previously, the funds came via CARES; this time, they are ARPA funds. The council will vote on an amount at its next meeting but in the meantime, a band-aid of sorts is in place, so there is money now! If you need assistance, please contact Bluegrass Community Action, 200 Park Street in Versailles, at 859-873-8182. The guidelines to qualify are a bit looser this time, i.e., don't have to be directly COVID-related. You will have to be behind on bills though. If you have any questions, I'm happy to try to answer them if I can (msg me or call me at 859-351-0460). I will have more information after the next council meeting but there is money available now and I wanted to let you know! If you live in the county, I believe there is still money available for you as well.

The Simon House Community Services & Emergency Shelter (located in Frankfort) will begin providing services in Woodford County twice a month mainly to help those struggling with homelessness or housing insecurity. The COMMUNITY is invited to learn more from 12:30-1:30 pm on Thursday, July 22, at St. John's Episcopal. There will be a short presentation by the director of the Simon House with an opportunity to ask questions. Outreach services will be from 2-5 pm at St. John's. Services will include:
*Providing onsite case management
*Providing supplies to those in need
*Helping with resource referrals
*Building partnerships with existing resources within the county
*Providing emergency shelter (in Frankfort but with transportation back to Woodford)
Simon House's presence in Woodford County is the result of recent discussions among several downtown churches but the Simon House has always served people from Woodford. All are welcome to attend -- this is a public event. If you would like to bring something to help start stocking the supply room, the list is attached!

Classes are free, though donations for that day's instructor are accepted if you are able.

More relief money is available for small businesses in Versailles and -- this time around -- for nonprofits! This is American Relief Plan Act (ARPA) money being made available to the City of Versailles to help those in our community impacted by the pandemic. To determine if you're eligible and to apply (by July 30), visit versailles.ky.gov. The information about this program -- abbreviated VERA locally -- is right on the home page. By the way, there is still money (and will be more) to help individuals with rent/mortgage and utility assistance. Call Bluegrass Community Action at 859-873-8182 for more information. You can also message me or call me at 859-351-0460 if you have any questions.

Yoga at Big Spring Park tomorrow (6/19)!

My view at last week's Yoga Class! Great way to start the weekend!
🙏Yoga at Big Spring Park tomorrow, Saturday, 6/19, from 8:30-9:30 am! Brandi Strickland will be our instructor. Park in the lot off Clifton Rd and walk down the sidewalk to the soccer field. Bring a mat / towel / blanket. ALL are welcome and NO experience necessary. It's not required, but if you wish to donate a little something for the instructor, there will be a donation box. “Building A Great Community, One Neighborhood At A Time”

What is the value of a neighborhood association?

At CONA-WCI, we believe that organized neighborhoods have a stronger sense of community, have higher property values, and are safer places to live. Indeed, Hur and Bollinger state:

“We found significant contributions by NA’s in communication and community activities that affected residents’ overall neighborhood satisfaction. We also found that an association’s contributions in maintaining active communications with residents were the most significant feature that residents appreciated. “ (Hur, Misun and Ashley G. Bollinger. 2015. Neighborhood Associations and Their Strategic Actions to Enhance Residents’ Neighborhood Satisfaction. Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. Vol 44, (6): 1152-1172.)
