SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES: MEET & GREET

A Town Hall will be held on Wed. Oct. 25 , 2017 at 7PM in the Versailles High School Theater. The purpose of the Town Hall will be to allow the eight (8) Versailles Board of Education candidates to introduce themselves to the school districts citizens and then be available to answer four (4) questions submitted by the three (3) sponsors and the High School government class. The sponsors are Educate Versailles, The Versailles Elementary Parent Teachers Association (PTO) and the Versailles Education Association (VEA). The questions will be directed to the candidates by a moderator. Time limits for the introductions will be limited to one (1) minute and also to one (1) minute for answers. When all questions are completed each candidate will have two (2) minutes to summarize their positions. Total time should be about one (1) hour. When the formal meeting is completed all candidates will be requested to circulate for at least thirty (30) minutes to respond to any questions posed by those in the audience. Three (3) positions with four (4) year terms and one position with a two (2) year term are being contested. Voting day is November 7, 2017.

Please log in to Educate Versailles FB page for more information. Also please repost the above message on your FB page to reach as many parents with students in the Versailles School District as well as taxpayers who provide funds with their hard earned tax dollars.

The candidates are:Traci Anthony, Christopher Leach, Matt Magoto, Tom Ording, Ruth Peters,Jim Raterman,Tony Rose, and Jerry Shardo.

The questions they will be asked:

Versailles Elementary P.T.O.: Studies continue to show that early childhood education is a most critical phase in a student's education pathway. What one resource do you believe is of greatest significance and needs most investment?

Government Class: What is one educational challenge that the district must address and how do you as a candidate plan on addressing this concern?

Versailles Education Association: A school community is made up of student, faculty and administration. How do you plan to reach out to each of these members to get a true understanding of how the school community is interacting?

Educate Versailles: A two fold question. 1)How familiar are you with long range planning, including purposes and objectives, and in particular with the Versailles School District's five (5) year forecast and its assumptions? 2)If you determine you need additional knowledge how would you pursue that quest or would you just place your trust in the Treasurer?

Thanks for your support and we are looking for a great turnout for this very important event.

Retired teachers disagree on SB 5. While Mr. Kunkler pointed out the shortfalls of retire/rehire, he didn't mention the School Districts 10% pension contribution that went into the employees private annuity instead of the underfunded STRS pension fund.
