Black Girls Do Bike exists to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive community that centers women of color in cycling. We are committed to advancing joy, wellness, freedom, and connection through biking, while breaking down barriers that have historically limited access and representation in cycling spaces. We also encourage cycling as active transportation, supporting riders in using the bicycle not only
for recreation, but as a practical tool for mobility, independence, and healthier communities. We create opportunities for women and girls of color to come together for support, skill-building, mentorship, and community rides. By making cycling more approachable and accessible, we help riders move beyond barriers to entry and into a broader culture of confidence, fellowship, and belonging. Across the country, BGDB chapters center joy as resilience and resistance, creating spaces where women can reclaim movement, visibility, and connection on their own terms. We believe that women of color belong in every aspect of cycling as riders, leaders, educators, and advocates. Through uplifting representation, promoting safety and volunteerism, and advancing bike advocacy and education, we work to inspire lasting change in communities across the country. We are also committed to developing empowered leaders who can bring community priorities to local partners and decision-makers, helping shape more equitable, responsive, and bike-friendly communities. This mission is strengthened through Knox Academy, BGDB’s training and leadership development program, which prepares women to become ride leaders, instructors, and community ambassadors. Through Knox Academy, we are building a stronger pipeline of informed, empowered leaders who can expand access to cycling and shape a more inclusive future for the sport and culture of cycling.
