UPDATE! You might remember that our most recent educator grants included funds for the Verona Area High School nurses' office. In partnership with the VAHS Interior Design class, a space that is used to care for students experiencing emotional distress, migraine headaches, and acute illnesses during the school day has been transformed into an environment that is calming and aesthetically pleasing. The new space looks amazing and will serve students for years to come!

Ms. Tabrizi's VAEF grant will support the purchase of 3D anatomy models for Verona Area High School Spanish-language Health classes. These tabletop male and female reproductive system models give students a clear view of anatomy and help bridge cultural and language differences in learning about sexual health. Many of Ms. Tabrizi's students come from diverse backgrounds, and visual, tactile tools help create a safe, inclusive space for learning. These models will be used every year, benefiting dozens of students each semester.

Mr. Thomas, English teacher at Verona Area High School, received grant funding to support the relaunch of Verona Area High School’s student newspaper, The Catalyst, as a vibrant, student-run publication that strengthens school culture and develops real-world communication skills. This project will equip students with the tools, training, and mentorship needed to report, write, photograph, design, and publish high-quality journalism both in print and online. Reviving The Catalyst will create authentic opportunities for students to investigate issues affecting their school and community, collaborate in deadline-driven teams, and grow through public-facing work. Grant funds will support essential technology, photography and design equipment, printing costs, and professional development from journalists and media educators. Relaunching The Catalyst will not only restore a vital platform for student voice but also establish a sustainable program that prepares students for college, careers, and civic engagement through hands-on journalism experience. 📰
