When volunteers step into students’ interests, whether that’s the classroom or the weight room, real connection begins. Showing up, spotting a lift, sharing a laugh… that’s where trust is built and relationships grow stronger.

Isolated youth are more likely to disengage from school, struggle academically, and lack resilience amid family challenges—an issue affecting 46% of children in Indian River County. Positive peer groups can change that. Healthy networks build confidence, strengthen
communication and teamwork, boost school motivation, and promote safer choices.

But strong peer culture doesn’t happen by chance. It is intentionally engineered through structured mentorship as we do year round at Crossover Mission, where adults interrupt negative patterns, reinforce positive behavior, and teach student athletes how to resolve conflict.
Over time, youth internalize these norms and begin supporting one another—creating a culture of belonging, not just performance.

We’d like to thank the Board of County Commissioners for allocating funds through the Children’s Services Advisory Committee (CSAC) to support programs like ours. Together, we’re making a lasting impact on children and families in our
community.

Once a citrus fruit packing house, this historic landmark has been transformed through blood, sweat, tears, and countless prayers into the home of Crossover Mission, now proudly named The Jennings & De Schouwer Center for Excellence - a place where potential is developed, confidence is built, and futures are shaped.

Every wall holds a memory. Every beam represents sacrifice. And every step forward was made possible by the generosity, hard work, and love of our supporters who refused to give up on a dream bigger than bricks and mortar.

THIS is what happens when a community comes together.

They brightened up our academic space with a fresh coat of paint and surprised our students with cozy blankets, gift cards, and a generous program donation.
