Rotary Club of Vero Beach Vero Beach's Original Rotary Club (Est. 1926): Join our fun and dynamic group of ethical, business community-minded friends for lunch! (P.S.

We meet every Thursday at Noon at the Vero Beach Yacht Club. The overall mission of our Rotary Club (The Rotary Club of Vero Beach - Vero's 1st Club, established in
1926) and its 501(c)3 foundation (Vero Beach Rotary Charities Foundation Inc.) is to provide support to
501(c)3 organizations, most specifically for youth and education projects in Indian River County, Florida. Our key event is the Rot

ary Kids Triathlon, a safe, fun, short-course, multi-sport SWIM-BIKE-RUN event for children between the ages of 6-13. Our NO CHILD TURNED AWAY slogan brings a SOLD-OUT crowd to Victor Hart Park on the first Saturday of every December, both for 1st time participants and for seasoned athletes. Through this event and preparatory clinics during the year, we promote favorable physical and mental health for children and their families - and 100% of all net sponsorship proceeds (we have no overhead) go back to youth organizations in Indian River County. Spread the word and register your child, grandchild, nephew, niece, and their friends and neighborhood children and join in on the excitement! volunteering gets you a closer look at your child as they cross the finish line to earn that beautiful Finisher Medal!)

We are very excited to announce our newest inductee, Ginny Blossom, Executive Director of Sunshine Physical Therapy Clinic! Ginny's strong experience and stellar reputation for serving non-profit organizations in our community fits perfectly into our Club's motto of "Service Above Self". Inducting her is our sagacious President, Sandy Vilas, and our scrupulous President Elect, Danny Davis. We invite you to attend one of our lunches on Thursdays at the VB Yacht Club, and meet the community leaders and experience the friendship within our Rotary Club.

What a way to wrap up an incredible January! 🎉
We’re thrilled to welcome three new members into our Rotary family — Linda Roberts, Bob Coyne, and Jane Coyne, all proudly sponsored by Annelea Blignaut .
January was truly jam-packed and buzzing with energy as we celebrated 100 years of Service Above Self, inducted eight new members, and grew our club to 50 strong. The excitement, involvement, and momentum in the club have been contagious, with members stepping up and getting fully engaged.
Here’s to fresh faces, new ideas, meaningful connections, and a Rotary Club that’s alive with purpose and enthusiasm. The future is bright, and the energy is real! 💙💛⚙️

What a night to remember ✨
In January, the Vero Beach Rotary Club proudly celebrated 100 years of Service Above Self —an evening that truly sparkled with fellowship, history, and heart. We also marked 50 years of Homestay and had the absolute honor of recognizing John Schumann for an incredible 70 years of Rotary service.
The room was filled with laughter, meaningful connections, and friendships old and new, with Rotarians joining us from Vero Beach, Sebastian, Orchid Island, and beyond. We were honored by the presence of our current District Governor, Macia Gaedcke, the District Governor-Elect, along with past DGs and international DGEs, making it a true Rotary “celebrity” gathering.
Great food, great company, and a shared passion for service made this milestone celebration unforgettable. Here’s to 100 years of impact, leadership, and friendship—and to many more decades of making a difference together. 💙💛⚙️

What a week to remember January 16-21! 🌍✨
In January, the Vero Beach Rotary Club proudly took part in the 50th Annual Homestay, a truly special milestone hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Indian River County — Vero Beach, Sunrise, Oceanside, Sunset, Sebastian, and Orchid Island.
Over five fun-filled days, we had the joy of hosting nine District Governors-Elect, along with some of their spouses, from England, the Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Uganda, and South Africa. From the very first night, the Rotary spirit was alive and well — kicking off with a fabulous Margaritaville themed cocktail reception sponsored by Vero Beach Sunset Rotary 🍹🎉
The week was packed with unforgettable experiences:
🛶 An airboat adventure through the Indian River County marshlands, spotting birds and plenty of alligator action
🏛️ Visits to the McLarty Treasure Museum, the McKee Botanical garden and Triton Submarines
🔥 A classic Florida barbecue at the River House complete with lawn games
🎉 Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Vero Beach Rotary Club
🌍 Breakfast meetings, lunches and dinners, and finally a heartfelt farewell luncheon
More than the events, this homestay was about building friendships across borders, sharing cultures, laughter, and stories, and living out the true spirit of Rotary — coming together in service and fellowship.
Here’s to 50 years of Homestay magic in Indian River County and to many more years of global connection, goodwill, and Rotary pride. 💙⚙️

The Purple Heart Cane Project has its annual presentation ceremony at the Navy UDT/SEAL Museum in Ft Pierce this Sat, Jan. 17 at 1:00PM. Hand-carved/personalized canes will be presented to 58 combat-wounded recipients of the Purple Heart Medal or Gold Star families from 15 states. Everyone is welcome!

The Purple Heart medal was originally instituted by George Washington and awarded to soldiers for valor in combat. It was re-instituted in WWII and awarded retroactively to WWI veterans.

The keynote speaker will be Medal of Honor recipient David Bellavia. Retired Master Chief Rick Kaiser of SEAL Team 6 of the Navy UDT/SEAL Museum will also address the recipients.

The Purple Heart Cane Project is a non-profit 501(c)3 that started in 2020 as a unique way of honoring our combat-wounded veterans. Visit: https://purpleheartcaneproject.org

What a fantastic way to kick off the year! 🎉
Our first Vero Beach Rotary Club lunch of the year was buzzing with energy, with around 50 Rotarians and guests in attendance. We were thrilled to induct five new members into our Rotary family — welcome Brian Hays, Lauretta Farrell, Clark Stieren, Schumetta McClendon, and Robert Schleis! 👏
We were also honored to have Roman Ortega Cohen join us — past president of the Vero Beach Rotary Club, opera singer, and Artistic Director of the Vero Beach Opera — who gave us all chills as he led us in a beautiful rendition of God Bless America. 🇺🇸🎶
The room was filled with excitement, connection, and optimism, truly setting the tone for an incredible year ahead under the fearless leadership of Sandy. Here’s to fellowship, service, and making a difference together in 2026! 💙💛

What a way to wrap up the year 🎄✨

The Rotary Christmas Dinner at the Vero Beach Yacht Club was so much fun, with around 50 Rotarians and friends coming together to celebrate the season and a year well lived. Amazing food, incredible service by the Yacht Club staff, and—most of all—such a wonderful group of people. The camaraderie, friendships, and relationships built over years were truly on display and made the evening extra special.

The ugly sweater competition brought lots of laughs, with Mike Kanuka taking the win in an absolutely epic outfit from his toes to the top of his head—and walking away with a bottle of great bubbly 🍾 Well deserved!

In true Rotary fashion, the fun also turned into service. One of the ugly sweater contestants auctioned off her sweater, and Stuart proudly claimed it with the highest bid. An incredible $250 was raised for the Rotary Foundation—proof that even an ugly sweater can make a beautiful impact.

Another meaningful moment was presenting the Rotary lamp to Brenda Bradley, now the proud new owner for the next year, honoring someone who truly brings their light to Rotary.

Great food, great fun, and an incredible bunch of people to spend an evening with. A perfect way to end the year. Looking forward to jumping back into Rotary when we start again in January!
