India is experiencing the impacts from our first-world exorbitant lifestyles. The feedback of our rapid energy consumption of the last 75 years is playing out now. Systemic change is needed for US to change OUR lifestyles. Politically, that is not feasible until voters acquiesce to a lower energy lifestyle AND companies ditch their profit-seeking motives.

Yes, that last image is over a foot of hail in Colorado, from today. Plus tornados (Multiple recently and bad one in Iowa today), and a wind storm event in Houston a few days ago.

Were not ready for what is already happening to the climate. Insurance companies are canceling policies in multiple states.

I beg 🙏😣 that we have conversations about how we must mitigate damages and adapt our communities to be more resilient. Talk about it. Learn about what is happening. Meet together and plan. Because we’re already in the sh*t.

I have a confession: the information that truly changed my outlook on the future was learning about the limitations of oil production. I had learned a bunch of scary stuff about climate change, but nothing had terrified me more than listening to Petroleum experts and their warnings about the depletion rate of current production plays. If you think the future will look like the recent past… you’re wrong, and unfortunately no one is clearly and vocally warning you. Not the news media. Not politicians. Just me and some Petroleum scientists. We will enter a lower energy future, whether we want to for environmental reasons or not.

You probably won’t hear this anywhere else on the news, despite professor Jacobson’s cheeky comment. Maybe it will be some passing story to be tossed aside with barely a thought. But anyway, we’re living in a new world now in regards to climate; a world that humans have never experienced before and a world that is changing faster than any plant, animal, or fungi on earth has ever had to adapt to. Plus, we’ve crossed over the “safe” boundary that the world’s best climate scientists have been warning about. We’ve been beyond the boundary for a full year and running… doesn’t it bother anyone else that our media is doing such a terrible job exposing this and preparing us for an uncertain future?

Did you know about this? Climate science is at a really important inflection point. Top scientists are camping up into separate groups: those who think we can generally maintain Business As Usual economic growth but just switch to “green” energy, versus those who acknowledge the necessity of larger systems/economic/social change to address global warming and related problems of Overshoot. Guess which camp gets booked on all the news programs… the one that advocates continuing neoliberal economics while downplaying the acceleration of global warming… in other words some scientists are ignoring the science.

There is actually no window left, at least not a window to maintain our current lifestyles. The window is closed and the most terrifying part, as noted below, is that no one even cares. (Or maybe y’all don’t realize yet that “save the planet” actually means ‘keep food on your table’)
