2026 FLAGS FOR HEROES
Honor YOUR Hero by Sponsoring a Flag - Our 140+ individually dedicated Flags for Heroes start flying October 17th, continue through Veteran's Day, and wave until November 12th (weather permitting for apx 4 weeks) in the field in front of the Vernon Fire Dept on Rte 515.
YOUR FLAG's MEDALLION dedicates one of those flags to YOUR HERO - with Your Hero's name, title/rank/role, (and photo if you'd like), in honor of their service, sacrifice and impact.

WHO IS YOUR HERO?
A Veteran? A family member or friend who served in Vietnam, Korea, WWII or WWI?
Member of the Military, Police, Fire, or EMT?
Maybe a Teacher? Mentor? Role Model?
Or even, a Group?
YOUR HERO made a difference in your life, or the lives of others - and Your Hero's Flag honors and remembers that.

ARE YOU A CORPORATE SPONSOR?
Our Corporate Sponsorships (Platinum, Gold, Silver & Bronze) include a flag dedicated to its Hero - as well as additional on-site and social media recognition. All of our large and small local businesses have past and present Heroes who sacrificed themselves or transformed the lives of others. This is a great time to remember and recognize them.
THANK YOU TO OUR CORPORATE SPONSORS!

October 24th GATHERING
On Saturday, Oct. 24th at 10am, all Flag Sponsors - personal and corporate - are invited to join us at the Field of Flags to celebrate your Heroes - take photos with Your Hero's Flag and share stories, with coffee and snacks.

Flags for Heroes is Vernon Rotary's annual fundraiser. Our goal is 150 Hero Flags! Vernon Rotary Club uses these funds specifically for VERNON'S community needs - including helping our Vernon food pantries, and awarding scholarships to our Vernon high school seniors.
So, when you Sponsor a Flag in honor of YOUR Hero, YOU BECOME A HERO to our community.

We all know a hero. Let’s celebrate them while they are still here, so they know the impact they have made in our lives.

The Vernon Rotary Club’s Flags for Heroes fundraiser gives you the opportunity to honor a hero by sponsoring a flag in their name. Your hero may be a veteran, first responder, teacher, parent, grandparent, mentor, friend, or anyone who has made a difference.

Flags will fly beginning October 17th through Veterans Day, weather permitting, in front of the Vernon Fire Department on Route 515.

Please complete the flyer below to sponsor your hero. The big question is: Who is the hero you will honor this year?

Today, the Vernon Rotary and JC Security and Training completed a community service project for Debra Smorto, Owner/Director of Fields of Green Montessori School, located at 58 Sandhill Road, Vernon, NJ.

Rotarians Teresa Cain and Stacie Ellis remain committed to giving back to our community. We were proud to provide school sling bags filled with extra school supplies for the children.

Our children are our future, and making sure they have the supplies and tools they need helps set them up for success. It was a pleasure to support Fields of Green Montessori School and continue serving our Vernon community.

10 Blind Spots That Can Weaken Rotary Clubs

Every strong organization must pause, reflect, and grow. Rotary is built on service, leadership, fellowship, and community impact, but even great clubs can face challenges when communication, trust, recognition, and purpose are overlooked.

For Vernon Rotary, this is a reminder to keep working together with respect, transparency, and shared commitment. When members feel heard, valued, and supported, our club becomes stronger and our service to the community becomes even more meaningful.

Let’s continue to lead with purpose, recognize each other’s efforts, welcome new ideas, respect boundaries, and keep service above self at the center of everything we do.

Vernon Rotary: serving our community with heart, purpose, and teamwork.

Thank you to Bob Jordan and President Pat Yaccarino for sitting at Mac & Lindy’s in support of the Vernon Rotary Club’s Flags for Heroes fundraiser.

Everyone has a hero in their life. Why not sponsor a flag in their honor and recognize them while they are still here to receive the love and appreciation they deserve?

If you are unable to stop by Mac & Lindy’s on Friday, please reach out to any Vernon Rotarian for more information on how to sponsor your hero.
