This was an energetic week of skills, starting with full court ball handling with layups and finishing moves for older, more experienced players. We introduced our cutting at the wing that is so important to the start of every offense. We broke down the v cut to the wing, use of a backdoor cut and showed the give and go cut which led us to 1 on 1 wing play and 2 on 2 basketball.

Some of our impressive skills players this week: Bryant Barringer, CJ Starshak, Brandon Stine, Zac Thackenkary at the Ela Sports Center / Caylem Sieja, Royce Liu, Tyler Kim, Evan April and Aidan Draper at the Adversity Center. Sonakshi Choudhary and Josiah Ellingson were awesome at Canlan Sportsplex – Libertyville. There were so many impressive players this week and we look forward to week 4 of skills where we build on our cutting and movement into 3 on 3 games!

We are looking for coaches who are passionate about the game and have strong leadership skills to cultivate young players. This is a perfect job for coaches who love the sport and have time to work with K-8th graders after 4 p.m. during the week and have flexibility on Saturday and Sunday. Positions are available at multiple PHH locations, including Chicago, Lincolnshire, Libertyville, Long Grove and Vernon Hills.

Our new coaching hires will assist lead instructors in running various basketball sessions - weekly skills classes, leading recreational league teams, travel basketball, clinics, camps, and more. Pay will be based on location and experience. Interested candidates should contact [email protected]. Please note the location you are interested in when contacting us via email.

This past Winter and Spring we had our first Play Hard Hoops (exclusive) City Warriors travel teams. These seasons were a big success while staying safe through the health adjustments, as we had a total of 19 teams ranging from 3rd to 8th grade, competing in games throughout Chicagoland. We witnessed tremendous growth in our players fundamental skills, teamwork, communication, and defensive toughness. Thank you to all our Warriors for the passion and excitement which you played with! We envision continuing to build on these great seasons with a short Fall season for boys with tryouts next month in August. Then, in the Winter we will have our second boys Winter season, and our first girls City Warriors Travel Season!

10/31/2020

Our Play Hard City Warriors travel program had 137 players tryout, and we selected 10 teams from 3rd-8th grade this season. Hopefully we can get some games in down the road, but for now, we’re grinding intrateam at practices and skills sessions. Stay safe all...sending good spirit from PHH.

Shoutout to Coach J’s camera work+color commentary excitement here...chill out JBone Jared Ashe!

Coach J got another session in at Oz Park this morn before the stay-in rainy day...missing the summer grind zone/2 ball burnouts that were loved (hated) in the workouts.

Stay dry and safe today Play Hard Hoopers!

If, and only if, we are in Phase 4 by the start of these camps, our Play Hard Hoops summer camps will begin. Things may be different in our facility, as well as in the program but we are excited to see our families back. We will have very limited spaces available, so if you are interested in getting your child registered please contact [email protected]. Payments will be due the first day of camp. Looking to welcoming our families back to VSP.

This is a time where everyone's voice matters and not only does your voice matter, but listening to the voice of others is so critical to the healing of our city and our nation. There has been an epidemic in this country that we have for too long glossed over and regardless of political affiliation, or any agreement/disagreement on any number of issues, we cannot deny this epidemic any longer.

Movies in the 80's like Do the Right Thing, Boyz n the Hood gave us the portrayals we have just recently witnessed. The movie House Party chose a more comedic tone that represented this epidemic over 30 years ago, so there is no denying our knowledge of African American communities being treated differently by Law Enforcement and our criminal justice system.

My thoughts are with so many friends, several of which are like family to me. I can promise that Play Hard Hoops and myself personally will always stand up for their rights and desire to be treated fairly and with the liberty they deserve. My thoughts are also with the innocents who are directly affected by the damage and destruction of the last week.

I hope that the result will not be back to normal, but that it will create a vision and prompt action for the future, so this type of systemic inequity for people of color will be wiped from all corners of our society.

Stay safe - stay healthy and please spread as much love as you can!

Coach A and Coach J Bone stand in solidarity with the protests and the healing needed for our nation

Very special to see some of our kids recognized on TV (the best of 7 burnout challenge coverage yayyy)! Thank you Coach Burmeister for the inspiration and mentorship all these years, ABC7 Chicago for your time, and to our families - you've made these past 2 months a time of sticking together, and playing hard, while at home to protect our community.
