LIBRARY NEWS

There will be consecutive Computer Classes at the Vermillion library on March 5th, 12 & 19th at 10:00 P.M. These classes are being offered to help those who need a refresher course or help them with the updates that have been made in the past year or so to computers and or computer programs. Vermillion Foot Care Rescheduled

Clinic for Toenail removal March 25th has been cancelled and rescheduled for April 3rd. For those of you who have already been scheduled, your appointment will be at the same time as previously scheduled and are still on the list. We are sorry for the change in schedule but Megan has a meeting to attend on the first scheduling date.

Oklahoma City - Paula Kay (Quakenbush) Galt was born on August 10, 1942, in Frankfort, Kansas and passed away on August 11, 2024, in Oklahoma City after a long illness. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Galt; son, Jason Galt; sister, Judi Dudley; grandsons, Corbin, Caleb, Collin Galt; stepdaughter, Laura Galt; granddaughters, Campbell and Scout Snavely; and cat, Molly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Paul Quakenbush; sisters, Pat and Shirley; and brothers, Sam, Bill, and David.

Paula worked for many years at Edward Jones before retiring in 2018. Outside of her professional life, she was a dedicated grandmother who took pride in watching her three grandsons grow up and become the wonderful young men they are today. She loved animals, music, gardening, and reading. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed cooking for others (especially around the holidays). She will be missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Bethany, OK at 11 am on Friday, August 16.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paula's memory can be made to curepsp.org, the Mayo Clinic, or St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Bethany, OK. We would like to offer a special thank you to Mona Lisa and Nurse Tarek for their support over the last few yearso

The Vermillion Library will be sponsoring a "Soup and sandwich" fundraiser at Dutch's on the evening of March 1 from 5:30 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. We are hoping to raise enough money to replace the foundation of this grand old depot which was built in 1869. This depot is the oldest standing depot in Marshall County. If you can not attend and wish to contribute please send your donations to the Vermillion Library at 102 Main Street, Vermillion. Hope to see you there.

John N. Dreher, 91, Manhattan, Kansas
died Thursday, January 2, 1995 at a
Manhattan hospital.

Mr. Dreher farmed in the Vermillion,Kansas
area and later worked in the public schools
in Vermillion from 1933 to 1952. He was
the head of maintenance at Manhattan Chris-
tian College in Manhattan for many years
and had served as basketball coach at MCC
for several years. He retired in 1968 but
continued to work part time until 1986.

He was born February 7, 1903, at Richville,
Missouri, the son of John and Emma (Novel)
Dreher. He moved with his family to
Vermillion, Kansas in 1913 and graduated
from Vermillion High School.

He married Ethel Johnson on September 25,
1933 in Seneca, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include a son Earl R. Dreher,
Manhattan, Kansas; a daughter, Joanne
Ochse, Portland, Oregon; seven grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday,
January 18, 1995 at the Irvin-Parkview
Funeral Home in Manhattan, Kansas.

Graveside Services were held at 3:30 p.m. at
Vermillion Cemetery, Vermillion, Kansas.

Rene Daugherty Jennie December 21, 1937 - January 23, 2025
Jennie Rene (Sabin) Daugherty passed away in Lawrence, Kansas on January 23, 2025 with her loving family by her side. Jennie was born December 21, 1937 in Vermillion, Kansas in her grandparents home, the daughter of Robert Sr. and Alfaretta Schafer Sabin. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1956 and worked as a Nurses Aide in Horton, where she met her husband of 52 years, Donald L. Daugherty. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1957. She is survived by her four children, Julie Hall of Tonganoxie, KS, Rodney Daugherty of Lecompton, Licia (Ralph) Haverkamp, Overbrook, Kansas and Jeffrey Daugherty of McLouth, one brother, Robert Sabin and wife Jane Booth of Spring Hill, Kansas and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, son-in-law, Thomas, her parents, her sister and best friend, JoAnn Fox, and her loyal dog, Lucy.
Besides caring for her family, she raised chickens, ducks, cattle, pigs and had several horses. She loved all animals, large and small. She enjoyed driving a school bus for Oskaloosa Public Schools and her Supervisor of Security job at the KU campus. Her hobbies included watching KU basketball, fishing and spending time with family at the lake cabin. Her biggest enjoyment was spending time with her seven grandchildren, Shane (Nicole) Hall, Tamara Hall, Lacy (Jerimie) Mckee, Tara (Brian) Pollard, Bailee (KC) Daugherty, Lauren Daugherty and Chelsea Daugherty. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Ava, Kaiden, Willow, Emberly and Haisley.
The Daugherty Family will have graveside inurnment services in the Spring, which was her favorite time of year. It was nearly 80 years ago when a young Loyal Shirley enlisted in the Marines while on his senior class trip, unbeknownst to his mother.
