Thanks to everyone that came down to Cotton Park Clear & Play! We roughly finished making the fairway for hole 8 today. Just one hole left to do but that will take more than extra hands. Great work today!

We'll be putting in some permanent baskets on the limepit side. Keep a look out in the coming weeks!

We're finally back at it! Hole 10's fairway is shaped and hole 9 is being worked on. Only 7 through 9 left!

We also wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude to the Dakota Hospital Foundation!! We are honored to receive a $5000 grant toward the Cotton Park Disc Golf project. We are excited to be able to make something for the community that will further a healthy, active lifestyle and we are glad that DHF could join us in that vision!

This morning, Vermillion River Disc Golf board member Mike Phelan and Living River Group/Sierra Club president Susanne Skyrm walked the proposed disc golf course with two other concerned community members. We were able to show how the course will work within (not instead of) the current woods landscape, allowing the trees to guide where the course goes rather than cutting down trees in the path of the course. Skyrm offered good advice on how to minimize impact on local wildlife, including maintaining brush piles between fairways and moving (rather than removing) deadfall. We also discussed ways that the course has been designed to minimize interference with the walking path, road, and other park features. Everyone seemed to agree that the disc golf course would create a nice (unpaved) walking path for those wishing to explore the woods at Cotton Park.

Both groups were saddened and surprised by the clear-cutting that has taken place near the soccer field fence line. This was never a part of Vermillion River Disc Golf's course design.

Phelan and Skyrm agreed that it would be good for a bigger group of disc golfers and Sierra Club members to walk the park again in the coming months once the ice has a chance to melt.

Hole 11's fairway/green is cut and mostly cleared. Just 4, that's FOUR holes left!

A little late on this announcement: We are now officially a 501(c)3! This opens so many doors for us to help make improvements in our community. I just wanted to thank everyone that has helped us in these beginning stages!

Got the green opened back up for hole 6. That was a monster branch that fell; probably could have been it's own tree!
