In Ohio, filing for all federal, state and county offices in partisan primaries ends Dec. 20 for the March 19 primary and requires very few signatures. March 18, day before primary, is deadline for independent or "other party" candidates, usually requiring 1% of those who voted for Gov..
It would be wonderful if nearly every incumbent was "primaried", especially the more extreme of each party. The Ds have been pushed very much to the left, the Rs very much to the right. We've seen this in such things as extreme overspending and lack of control of our borders at the federal level, the attempts to ban abortion at 6 weeks, change the way to amend Ohio's constitution at a special election prohibited for everybody else, or change the expressed will of the people on ma*****na at the state level. At least every incumbent who was part of these problems, or failed to be part of the solution, should be defeated.
I'd include the likes of Bob Latta, Marcy Kaptu, Marcia Fudge, and Max Miller in NE Ohio. I'd include folks like Merrin, Matt Huffman, and many many others. With regret, though I'm a pretty libertarian conservative, in the Ohio State Senate and House, the super-majority of Republicans are largely the problem and most need to be sent packing. At the federal level, I'd blame mostly the Democrats. But both parties are extreme at this point, and 75% of voters don't like either.
Once the field of candidates in the primaries is set Dec. 20, serious consideration should be given by others to filing independent on March 18 and starting to collect signatures. Be warned that if you are in a primary or vote in the March primary, you cannot file as independent or other, and need to formally disaffiliate and not vote the primary to be legally qualified. Every incumbent should probably be opposed by someone with more extreme positions them then preferably to challenge their base and encourage defeat.
Though I am Libertarian for several years now, I'm considering whether to forfeit that valued status in March to vote in the Republican primary, especially if DJT could be defeated, as that is the best place all independents and "others" can have impact, as well as in down ballot races.
I apologize for the length of this post. I basically never do and use FB almost exclusively to keep up with family and friends anymore. Don't know how widely FB will share, but feel free to share with your friends and followers if you wish. And the best way to rein in all the imperial presidents and others is to elect legislators who are not extreme and will actually do their work.
