Between boat launches, new exhibit openings, artist talks, mural presentations, author talks, and book signings, these past few days have been filled to the brim with all the best kinds of stuff.

What events are you looking forward to participating in this season? Let us know!

We were honored to speak with Jim Carrier, reporter with Seven Days, about access to Lake Champlain for this piece.

Access to the lake is a challenge and has been one of the driving forces behind the museum’s mission for years. It’s why we eliminated our admission fees, and it’s why we changed our summer camps and youth programs to a pay-what-you-can model. All people of the Champlain Valley should be able to access the lake and learn from our shared history, ecology, and archaeology.

Read Jim’s article to learn more about other efforts to boost access to Lake Champlain:

Unless you have a boat, money or lakefront property, Lake Champlain’s hundreds of miles of shoreline are tough to access. Efforts are under way to improve that.

Ever wanted to try your hand at Fly Fishing? If your answer is yes, you are in luck because we are hosting TWO fly fishing events 🎣

On June 6 at 1 PM, join us for "Ladies Day on the New Haven River: Introduction to Fly Fishing," a free afternoon at Sycamore Park full of fishing fun with other women. Learn the art of the cast, knots, flies, and of course, lots of water ecology and ethics.

On June 10 at 1 PM, visit the museum for “Introduction to Fly Fishing,” a beginner fly fishing course open to all with Vermont Fish and Wildlife’s Let’s Go Fishing program.

Both of these events are free to attend, but advanced registration is strongly encouraged to ensure there is enough equipment available. Visit https://www.lcmm.org/calendar/ to learn more and register!

Tomorrow is the big day–Boat Launch Day 2026 🛶🎉

As we check off our “finishing touch” to-do list here at the boat shop, we can’t wait for all of you to join us tomorrow from 11–3 to celebrate the launch of our newest boat built.

All parents, teachers, staff, friends, and members of the public are invited to join us at the Museum. Students will present their finished boat, share a little bit about their experience building, and then we’ll parade them down to the harbor where they will launch the boat for the very first time in the lake.

This event is free to join, no registration required, and light refreshments will be provided. We can’t wait to see you there!
