Verdi History Center

Verdi History Center The Verdi History Preservation Society, Inc. consists of local residents concerned with the preservation of the history of Verdi and the surrounding area.

We are open from 1 pm to 3 pm by appointment. In 2002, with the support of the Verdi Community Library, we started collecting photographs and artifacts that pertain to Verdi. We now have 85 scrapbooks that contain photos and histories of some of the families of early Verdi. The Verdi History Center is open and we are now looking to expand to build for the future. Because we are a non-profit organi

zation, we need your support to help cover expenses in this worthwhile endeavor. We hope that people with an interest in Verdi and the surrounding area will help with our ever- expanding history files and the renovation of our building. If anyone has any photos or items pertaining to Verdi or the surrounding area, please contact us. We are particularly looking for photos of the Wishing Well, Last Chance and the Frostie. Items may be loaned, or donated to the Center and copies of original documents are happily accepted. Please join us to preserve this vital part of Nevada’s history. Barbara Ting, President

Our Verdi Public Library is in need of help. The county is dangerously close to closing the library and rather instead sending a bookmobile to the library on Wednesdays. The students at the school use the library during school hours and all have library member cards and are therefore public library patrons. Wednesday’s are the only time that a public library program is available to Verdi kids on the early release day which is the “mini makers” where kids can come and make a craft or do another activity in a safe space. Please consider either attending the meeting on Wednesday October 1st at 5:30 pm at the Downtown Reno Library where the washoe county board of trustees will be deciding the fate of our library or write a letter in support of keeping the library open to the public on Wednesday afternoons. Verdi has grown tremendously in the last decade and is continuing to grow. We need to keep our little library in our community.

These letters need to be sent no later than 4pm on Tuesday September 30th.

Come on Verdi! Let’s work together to show the county that our library is worth saving!

We would like to bring to your attention that Jr has been diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing surgery. As a result, he will be absent from work for 4-6 weeks without pay. In order to provide financial support during his recovery, we are hosting a dinner in his honor to raise funds. The dinner will include pork ribs, pesto pasta, green salad, and dessert, paired with wine, all for $30 per person. Please contact us to confirm attendance, as this will enable us to accurately plan the food requirements. The event is scheduled to take place at the Old Verdi School on August 28th, with drinks at 5 pm and dinner served at 6 pm.

Come check out Verdi Fest hosted by the Sure Foundation Fellowship Church! Food, music, face painting, crafts and a bounce house are at the Old Verdi School. At the Church on S. Verdi there is ice cream, farm animals and a 4H Club booth. There is a hay ride between the venues.
