Our Helping One Woman Ventura Chapter was able to honor Rene Camper-Stewart at our August dinner.

Rene is a community volunteer deeply embedded in Ventura County giving her time and attention to lift others up during their time of need. Rene’s husband recently had a heart transplant surgery that required lots of back and forth to LA for medical appointments.

Do you know someone like Rene that we can honor at a future dinner?

**we are actively looking for honorees and their sponsor. (August was Jeanna Wolfrey Backer sponsoring Rene Camper-Stewart)!

Rene has spent a lifetime showing up for everyone else.
Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.

Rene is the kind of woman who serves, gives, advocates, encourages and always seems to find a way to help someone else.

Right now, she’s devoting herself to caring for her husband as he recovers from a heart transplant.

So for ONE night, we want to turn the tables.

We want Rene to laugh, enjoy dinner, be surrounded by good people and feel just how loved and appreciated she is.

Wednesday, August 19 | 6–8 PM
The Greek Restaurant at the Harbor

Come for dinner. Bring a friend. Buy a raffle ticket. Enjoy dessert.

Most importantly, show up for Rene.

You don't have to know her. You just have to be willing to be part of her village for one night.

👋 Helping One Woman Ventura is proud to announce Rene Camper-Stewart as our August recipient!

On May 4, 2026, Rene's husband suddenly stopped breathing while they watched TV together. She called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics restarted his heart. He spent three days in a coma, then suffered a second heart attack that qualified him for the transplant list — and days later, received a new heart.

Since then, Rene has been his full-time caregiver: coordinating care at Cedars-Sinai, driving him to LA for appointments, and rebuilding her life around his recovery. Just days ago, she was reminded this journey is far from over.

Even so, Rene keeps giving back — through the Oxnard Noontimers Lions Club, St. Paul Baptist Church, and The Links, Incorporated. Professionally, she's dedicated her career to helping others find stable housing, from serving as Commissioner for Homelessness to Oxnard's Community Relations Commission.

After a lifetime of showing up for everyone else, it's our turn to show up for Rene. 💛

Sometimes we see someone struggling and wish there was more we could do.

That’s the heart behind Helping One Woman. 💙

When one person tries to help alone, the impact may feel small. But when a community comes together, even the smallest contributions can create something truly life changing.

One woman. One family. One community standing together.

Because when many people give a little, hope grows. Support grows. And lives are changed.

That’s why we do what we do. ✨

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💛

To everyone who attended our Helping One Woman Dinner for Alexis Orozco and her son Jordan, thank you for showing up with compassion, generosity, and love.

To those who purchased tickets, brought friends, contributed gifts, participated in the raffle and silent auction, and shared words of encouragement, thank you for helping make this evening so meaningful.

A special thank you to the incredible bakers who filled our dessert table with beautiful sweet treats. Your kindness added warmth, joy, and comfort to the evening.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Alexis' sponsor, Rachel Shur, for stepping up, walking alongside this family, and helping make this evening possible. Your support and friendship mean more than words can express.

Because of each of you, Alexis and Jordan were reminded that they are not facing this journey alone. Your support is a powerful example of what community looks like when we come together to lift up a family in need.

Together, we made a difference. Together, we showed love. Together, we reminded one family that hope is never out of reach. 💙

Tonight is the night. 💛

Tonight, our community comes together to support Alexis Orozco and her son Jordan as they navigate Jordan's leukemia journey.

Thank you to everyone who chose to show up, give, and make a difference. Your presence is a reminder that no family should face life's challenges alone.

We can't wait to see you tonight at The Greek Restaurant at the Harbor as we surround Alexis and Jordan with love, hope, and community support.

💙 Together, we make a difference.
