The Women Rising in Construction Committee is incredibly grateful for the support of our amazing sponsors: Local 585, Local 220, and Toro Enterprises. Our Labor Day BBQ Raffle Fundraiser could not have been the tremendous success it was without your generosity and support for our LiUNA Women.

A special THANK YOU to the Central Coast Labor Council for a successful Labor Day BBQ and all of our incredible volunteers who showed up bright and early, ready to cook, serve, and make the BBQ happen—even with the rain!

Shout-out to our sisters at Blazn TradesWomen! Thank you for coming out and supporting us at the Santa Paula Cruise Night. Your presence and support showed true solidarity.

And, of course, CONGRATULATIONS to all of our raffle winners! A very special congratulations to the grand prize winner of the 75" TV, who happens to be the wife of a LiUNA retiree! We are so excited that this special prize went to a member of our extended union family. Our hardworking committee members have delivered your prizes; they never stop working until the job is done!

We are proud of what we accomplished together and look forward to continuing this fundraiser annually—making it bigger, better, and stronger each year.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored, volunteered, purchased raffle tickets, and supported our mission. Together, we are building a stronger future for LiUNA Women!

Women Raising in Construction volunteering for the second year at the Ventura County Fair.

In partnership with Chloe‘s Trees, we donated 500 Oak Trees to our community. Thank you to all of our volunteers for showing up and doing the work, we could not have done it without you.

The Port of Hueneme is proud to support LiUNA 585 through our S.P.E.E.D. workforce development initiative. At Monday’s Women in Construction committee meeting, the group celebrated two milestones on opposite ends of a career journey as one member retired after 26 years of service while another completed the apprenticeship program.

Congratulations to both, and cheers to LiUNA 585 for all they do to empower and motivate women. This is workforce development in action! 👷🏽‍♀️🏗️🦺

Breaking barriers while honoring our commitment through the SPEED Workforce Development Project Grant with the Port of Hueneme.

Our mission statement is clear, and these women are a testament to that:
Barbara Pluma – First woman to be Sergeant At Arms and retire from Local 585
Luz Anguiano – First woman to graduate from the apprenticeship program of Local 585.

Congratulations, Barbara and Luz! Your dedication, leadership, and perseverance are paving the way for future generations of union sisters.

As proud members of LIUNA, we sincerely appreciate the support of Local 585.

The WRIC Committee values its partnership with the Port of Hueneme and is committed in achieving our goal with the help of the SPEED Initiative Workfoce Development Program.

Today, we celebrated partnership, progress, and purpose.

It was an honor to welcome California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) Secretary Toks Omishakin to the Port of Hueneme as we recognized the transformational projects made possible through California’s Port and Freight Infrastructure Program (PFIP). These investments are helping us build a safer, cleaner, and more resilient port while advancing our mission.

The impact of these projects extends well beyond our terminals. They improve air quality, strengthen California’s supply chain, create economic opportunity, and invest in the next generation through programs like our S.P.E.E.D. workforce initiative.

Secretary Omishakin closed the event with a quote from Muhammad Ali that perfectly captured the heart of the day:

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”

That is exactly what these investments represent. They are investments in people and in the future of the communities we are proud to serve.

Thank you to all the hard-working and amazing ladies of the WIC Committee for putting together last night LTS Forum. We always benefit from the incredible resources you provide, including the Keynote speakers, panelist vendors and contractors.

The raffles were great - congratulations to the two ladies who won the trip to the 2026 TWBN conference!
