WHY "THE OAKS" IN SANTA PAULA?

The Oaks neighborhood in Santa Paula has been selected to receive services through this VRFSC pilot program due to its high wildfire risk and vulnerability. This work is guided by a data-driven vulnerability mapping process incorporating wildfire hazard severity, WUI designation, socioeconomic indicators, and structure density.

VRFSC plans to make neighborhood-scale retrofits available to additional high-risk neighborhoods throughout Ventura County as grant funding becomes available. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified when future opportunities become available!

Is your neighborhood Firewise yet? Learn from Westshore, Ventura County's 50th Firewise USA® Community!

VRFSC extends its congrats to both the Westshore neighborhood and Gabriel Albarian, Regional Firewise Coordinator and partner of Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council, for helping Westshore get through the application process. We asked Christine Maasdam, Westshore Firewise Resident Leader, on her thoughts regarding the program...

"Westshore has witnessed the impact of the devastating fires over the past years and have made an effort to be mindful of fire safety. Yet, the Firewise USA® program and Gabriel [Albarian] were a game changer for our community. The outlined 3 year plan, the targeted information, county participation and possible insurance benefits made implementing the steps not only valuable, but educational and organized. Westshore is now invested in learning how to be a fire safe pro-active community from our homes to our surrounding landscapes.
We are eager to participate with Firewise." - Christine Maasdam

Congrats, again, Westshore!
