BLUE WATER TASK FORCE ACTION ALERT - We’re excited to share the release of the 2025 Clean Water Report from our network of Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) programs throughout the country.

The Clean Water Report highlighted ten BWTF-sampled beaches where people enjoy recreating, yet consistently high bacteria levels that exceed state health standards for recreational water could be putting public health at risk.

65% of beaches and sampling sites tested (400 of the 620) yielded at least one high bacteria result that exceeded state health standards.

This highlights why regular beach water quality monitoring is so important for protecting public health and safe recreation. There is currently a bill before the Senate to reauthorize, or extend funding for, the BEACH Act Grants program, which provides funding for beach water quality monitoring programs in coastal states.

The bill has already passed the House. Please join us in calling on the Senate here to reauthorize the BEACH Act Grants program, and share this action alert with your family, friends and co-workers.

Check our bio to sign the action alert or click on this link: https://surfrider.advocacyai.com/action/reauthorizethebeachact

See link in comments for link to BWTF Clean Water Report.

See you at the beach and remember to follow the 72 hour rule. To avoid waterborne illness, have no contact with ocean water 72 hours after a rain event. Pay attention to any advisories posted by local agencies at the beach.

Big thanks to everyone who came out today to clean up the Ventura Promenade and beaches including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Oxnard School District, and Impact, all the way from Lancaster! 🌊💙☀️

The Ventura Promenade is probably the cleanest beach in Ventura County right now, but the ocean needs more friends at Ormond Beach and Port Hueneme! Check out our website to see how you can make a big difference at our Port Hueneme Dune Restoration and Ormond Beach cleanups! Those events protect endangered bird species, restore the natural ecosystem, and remove literally tons of trash from sensitive birding areas! 🐦ventura.surfrider.org

Pulling trash out of the watershed before it made it to the beach was the focus of our May 16th Ormond Beach Cleanup. 197 pounds of trash from small pieces of plastic to bike parts was removed from Bubbling Springs Park and this Hueneme Park. Thanks to our Core Volunteers who make it possible for our Oak Park High students and several mother/daughter teams to show that they are friends of the ocean!
Our June 20 will be at the wetlands of Perkins Road and Bubbling Springs at Moranda Park in July. Register in our Bio!

RESPECT THE RINCON PARKWAY - May 9, 2026 beach clean up recap

Dolphins were feeding in the very long swells on Saturday while a mom/daughter team came out to show some love for our life source before Mom's Day on Sunday.

Twenty-one volunteers picked up 141 pounds of trash and about 35 pounds of recycling and large pieces of scrap metal in addition to over 200 pieces of micro pieces of Styrofoam that interfere with a healthy beach ecosystems. Coastal birds mistake these micropieces for fish and insect eggs which fill up their stomachs and eventually cause illness and death.

A very big shout out to State Parks District #1 for pulling out their tractor last week to pick up this 3 ton roll of asphalt paper used in paving that was polluting our waves.

Our next clean up is Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Please sign up here. https://x.gldn.io/e/4p5IjO0B52b

Respect the Rincon Parkway will continue our beach clean ups until CALTRANS closes the Ventura Overpass Bridge at Exit #72.

Thanks to the help of 27 volunteers, including students from the Oak Park High Surfrider Club, the Port Hueneme dune restoration area is looking great! Volunteers removed 1900 # of invasive Ice Plant, Bermuda Grass and European Sea Rocket. Returning volunteers Cassidy and Joan planted 17 Beach Poppies (Eschscholzia californica var. maritima) plants that were grown for us by Growing Works Nursery. These compliment the poppies popping up from seed we planted earlier this year. Join us on the first Saturday of the month! Registration link in bio. Photos by Marie Martin
