Lotus Circle International is dedicated to assisting disempowered, traumatized and underserved individuals and communities by providing education, treatment, and integrative healing tools for stabilization and empowerment. LCI's programs are committed to:
- increasing awareness of stress and trauma as a root cause of suffering and violence;
- providing education on the neurobiology of chronic str
ess and trauma and its relation to the cycle of violence, the destruction of our environment, and loss of self-agency;
- relieving suffering and providing aid in the resolution of trauma, chronic stress and disempowerment through education, training and treatment;
- developing and implementing new projects and methods of outreach for healing trauma and strengthening individuals and their communities at the local, regional, national, and international levels. All team members are trained in and utilize a psycho-physiological approach to working with traumas based on Somatic Experiencing (SE). It is a model that uses the inherent self-regulating tendencies in the body and brain that evolution has endowed us with to resolve trauma symptoms naturally. This body-focused approach understands that traumatic stress symptoms are often expressions of incomplete or fixated lower brain functions of fight, flight, and freeze. Our method helps people complete these responses and restore their inherent self-correcting, self-regulating mechanisms. Integrating lower psychomotor processes with higher brain processes of cognition and feeling creates a more flexible neurological system and enhances ones capacity to enjoy a wide spectrum of human experience. The method includes tracking nervous system responses (i.e. activation and settling) with awareness, building internal and external resources, which serve to calm the system and support it. Movement is often used to complete these responses, as well as some hands on touch work, predominately to the extremities (with the person’s permission) to bring awareness and provide containment. People are taught to utilize some of these skills themselves to regulate their nervous systems. This is a holistic approach and no drugs or equipment is used.
