A beautiful but breezy morning at the Cienega Springs Ecological Reserve.

As the native plants are really filling in along the preserve, it is hard to believe that this area was just watercress fields just a few years ago.

1. Last week we were happy to give a tour of our BEF site to our project managers and supporters from Bonneville Environmental Foundation as well as our funders from Proctor & Gamble.
2. SCRC staff has been working hard to remove invasive Giant Reed (arundo donax) and Saltcedar (tamarix ramosissima) and cleaning up trash to get the site ready for its first round of planting ever!
3. Shoutout to Max, the neighbor’s farm dog, for keeping us company at this site!

From planting day to thriving habitat 🌿✨With the help of our amazing volunteers, the Cienega Springs Ecological Reserve continues to transform over time, from freshly planted natives to a lush, living habitat just a year and a half later. Every native plant in the ground helps restore, wildlife, habitat, improve, soil health, and bring our local ecosystems back to life. Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this restoration journey!

SCRC will be partnering soon with a UCSB-lead restoration effort in the Santa Paula area on the Prairie Pacific property owned by The Nature Conservancy. Here, UCSB staff scout the restoration site prior to restoration work beginning. The project will restore 50 acres of riparian, scrub, and willow-cottonwood habitat. The project area is located on higher river Terrace adjacent to the active River channel and currently consists of degraded. Riparian scrub in Woodland have tattoos with high levels of w**d infestation and anthropogenic disturbance. Once restored this area will have greater potential support repair independent wildlife.
