Emily Mortimer, who starred in the 2001 comedy-drama film “Lovely & Amazing.”
She famously shared that filming a total nudity scene for the movie completely freed her from her chronic feelings of embarrassment and taught her what it truly meant to be “in the moment” as an actress. In the scene, her character, Elizabeth, stands completely naked in front of her lover and asks him to critically evaluate every part of her body—a vulnerable performance that Mortimer has described as an incredibly transformative and empowering milestone in her career

James Spader first joined The Office as a one-off guest star in the season 7 finale, “Search Committee,” appearing briefly alongside a star-studded lineup of interviewees hoping to replace Michael Scott. Spader originally agreed to just a brief cameo for fun, playing Robert California—a suave, intensely persuasive, and enigmatic corporate climber.
His magnetic performance and bizarre, offbeat energy immediately impressed producers Greg Daniels and Paul Lieberstein, as well as viewers, leading them to expand his short appearance into a full-fledged regular role for season 8. Rather than trying to directly mimic Steve Carell’s bumbling comedic style, Spader leaned into Robert California’s unsettling and philosophical monologues, quickly transforming the character into a dominant and unpredictable force who eventually becomes the CEO of Sabre (and later manages Dunder Mifflin).
True to his initial mindset, Spader always viewed the commitment as a one-year arc. After anchoring season 8 with his strange, intense charm—earning the iconic self-proclaimed title of the “lizard king”—Spader exited the series as planned, leaving behind one of the most polarizing and unforgettable characters in the show’s history.

Released on December 25, 1998, the drama-comedy Stepmom stars Julia Roberts as Isabel Kelly, a chic New York City fashion photographer who enters a complex blended-family dynamic. Isabel dates Luke Harrison (Ed Harris), a divorced attorney, and tries to win over his two reluctant children, Anna (Jena Malone) and Ben (Liam Aiken). Throughout this transition, Isabel faces deep skepticism and open hostility from Luke’s ex-wife, Jackie (Susan Sarandon), a devoted stay-at-home mother who fiercely resents the younger, career-driven newcomer trying to navigate a maternal role.
The emotional core of the film shifts drastically when Jackie is diagnosed with terminal cancer, forcing the two women to confront their fears and insecurities. Instead of falling back on the traditional “evil stepmother” cliché, the narrative explores how Jackie must overcome her terror of being forgotten, while Isabel must conquer her anxiety of competing with an irreplaceable mother. Through a series of deeply moving reconciliations, they transition from bitter rivals into a supportive alliance, realizing that the children have enough love in their hearts for both women.
