Some opportunities arrive in the most unexpected ways.
When our Executive Director, Esther Anaya, answered what seemed like a random email invitation, none of us could have imagined the experience that awaited. Our group was invited to a private screening of Color Book in Pasadena, and it quickly became much more than just a movie.
Color Book tells the moving story of a single father navigating life after the loss of his wife while raising his son, Mason, who has Down syndrome. It's a beautiful, honest film about grief, resilience, love, and the everyday realities many families experience.
The film deeply resonated with everyone who attended.
💙 "Color Book was an eye-opening experience to see the real-life struggles of a child with Down syndrome and his single father just trying to make it through." - Sara, staff
💙 "The movie was so great... and so was the guy I met sitting next to me!" — Karina, participant
💙 "The movie showed that kindness costs nothing, but can change everything for someone—and something more than oneself." — Kory, staff
Following the screening, members of our own Project R and the Co-Advocates of Ventura County joined Esther for a Q&A panel, sharing their personal stories, perspectives, and how the film made them feel empowered, represented, and truly seen.
Moments like these remind us how powerful storytelling can be. They spark conversations, build understanding, and bring communities together.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this unforgettable experience possible. We can't recommend Colorbook enough.
