Climate First: Replacing Oil & Gas - CFROG.org Together, we're combating the climate crisis by working to shape the transition from fossil fuels to a carbon-free economy on California’s Central Coast.

CFROG defends the environment and public health against dangerous and destructive practices of the oil and gas industry. A non-profit watchdog organization, CFROG consistently calls for enforcement of existing legal protections, and insists on transparency, accountability and responsibility from both the industry and government regulators. Alert to immediate hazards and to the longer terms impacts

of climate change, CFROG is engaged in advocacy, citizen research, legal intervention and public education. Issues addressed include: location and drilling of new wells and use of existing wells; methods of extraction such as chemical stimulation, acidization and hydrologic fracturing ("fracking"); oil and gas waste disposal and transportation. CFROG challenges permit applications and other filings, as well as regulatory policy and legislative proposals related to the oil and gas industry. CFROG's goal is proactive protection of air, water, forests, land stability, wildlife, agriculture, and public health.

It has been six months since hundreds of gallons of toxic oil spilled into Sisar Creek in Santa Paula Canyon. Impacting the community that calls it home, our waterways, wildlife, and infrastructure. And we're left with questions.

Check out this new piece by Inside Climate News featuring the frontline story from Ethan, the Santa Paula Canyon community member who made the first emergency call.

11 years ago today, on May 19th, 2015, the severely corroded Las Flores Pipeline, owned by Plains All American at the time, burst and spewed over 142,000 gallons of oil polluting more than 150 miles of our coastline, killing marine life, devastating fishing and recreational industries, and harming the local economy. The estimated cost of this disaster was more than $870,000,000.

11 years later, oil is flowing through the very same pipeline. This time, it is owned and operated by the reckless Houston-based Sable Offshore – a company with $18 million dollars in outstanding fines from the Coastal Commission, 21 federal criminal charges, numerous injunctions, and a blatant disregard for California state laws and regulatory agencies.

On Sunday, to commemorate the anniversary of this tragic spill, over 100 community members, youth leaders, students, organizations, and more came out to Refugio State Beach. We heard from powerful guest speakers, paddled out into the water, and reminded ourselves of the value and importance of protecting our natural spaces from corporate greed and recklessness.

Join us as we stand together to protect our coastline. For our oceans. For our community. For our future.

Last week, by a 2-3 vote, the Camarillo City Council did not adopt a resolution to support a phase out of fossil fuels, protect SB 1137 safety setbacks, and support Polluters Pay Climate Superfund legislation.

This resolution has been led by CFROG youth advocates who expressed a desire to take climate action at the local level in the wake of the Mountain Fire that severely impacted the City of Camarillo and surrounding areas, burning nearly 20,000 acres and damaging or destroying 369 structures in November 2024. Many of these students were directly impacted by losses from the Mountain Fire, with some losing their family homes, experiencing school closures, and enduring the physical, mental, and emotional consequences of this devastating climate disaster.

Throughout the past year and a half, over 50 local youth have engaged on this issue, writing letters to their council members, attending public hearings, and organizing their peers to build widespread support and understanding for the importance of this resolution.

Thank you to all of the youth, community, and organizational leaders who came out to support local youth – whether you showed up in person, submitted a written comment, or helped spread the word – the power and support of the community did not go unnoticed! Thank you to Councilmembers Martita Martinez-Bravo and Susan Santangelo for celebrating youth advocacy, taking bold climate action, and being the elected allies our young leaders need.

While it was not the outcome we were hoping for, our intergenerational coalition is continuing to meet to strategize and discuss how we move forward. Join us through the link in our bio!

✊Mobilize this May Day to end fossil fuels!✊

On May 1st, workers, students, and families across the country will be taking collective action to demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires by refusing business as usual through No Work. No School. No Shopping.

Instead, communities will be coming together to build power and demonstrate solidarity among working families at various events across the nation! At CFROG, working families are at the center of the just transition away from fossil fuels that we are fighting for. We stand strongly against fossil fuel billionaires and demand a future that puts people over profits.

The same oil and gas billionaires who torch our planet are bankrolling Trump and his abuse of power. Fossil fuel billionaires who pollute our communities are also backing the Trump administration, funding authoritarianism, and propping up an unequal economy where the rich get richer while the rest of us struggle.

We encourage you to participate in May Day by finding an event near you! Visit the link below to learn more and find an event.

⚡CFROG will be organizing a contingent at the Oxnard May Day event from 2pm-4pm at Plaza Park, and we invite you to join us! Sign up here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScCpmSne0F34cD_iDSYkd1UImaRFZEePgVMBSpc-7G45tgCBA/viewform?usp=header

⚡805 Action will also be sharing May Day information and more at the CEC Hub on Friday from 4pm-5:30pm – if you’re in Santa Barbara, be sure to stop by!

We hope you can join us for this historic day of mobilizing to prevent Big Oil from using their wealth to fund fascism and instead uplift the voices of working families!

Last month, CFROG had the honor of helping represent Ventura County at the United Nation's 70th Commission on the Status of Women.

Brought together by the Ventura County Women's Forum Collaborative, our Executive Director, Haley, joined Central Coast partners and international representatives in discussion on the promotion of gender equality, the rights, and the empowerment of women.

In these diverse and inspiring spaces, CFROG:

✊ Uplifted the need to hold polluters accountable for the climate crisis.

🌊 Discussed the evolving climate threats impacting progress, from sea-level rise in island countries to wildfires here at home.

🌱 Shared tactics for meaningful youth leadership in climate action.

👩 Explored the relationship between climate and care (domestic and communal work, often unpaid, done by women across the world).

While CFROG is dedicated to locally informed and impactful work, we are so thankful for the opportunity to share, learn from, be in community with community stewards from across the world.

TBT to our 2nd Annual CFROG Donor Appreciation Happy Hour! 🌎🍻💚

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure to come together with some of our incredible supporters and sustainers for a fun and relaxed celebration.

We are constantly inspired by the community leaders who make CFROG what it is -- from advocates, monthly and annual donors, organizers, and community-scientists; and all of the above!

Supporters played our famous CFROG Bingo, heard from Tiana, a youth leader, and our Executive Director, Haley, all while enjoying a toast to the resilient joy we bring to the climate movement.

Become a monthly or annual donor at CFROG today -- and join us in March 2027 for the next fun party! https://cfrog.org/donate/
