Signpost MissionWorks We are currently supporting the Godwin Technical Institute in Sierra Leone, Africa. The teachers expressed the need for further training.

We are raising money to build a new school site and increase student capacity. Over the span of five separate trips to Sierra Leone beginning in 2011, we have built meaningful relationships not only with Pastor Saffa’s Door Church in Freetown, but also with Pastor Fayia at the Door Christian Fellowship in Lungi, and Pastor Marvin in Wilberforce Barracks. In the spring of 2013 we travelled to the W

ilberforce church and built diversionary block walls to alleviate the flooding that takes place there each year during their rainy season. It was our first step in an effort to improve the infrastructure of that church with a view to it becoming the center of community life in that area. In the fall, the education team traveled to Lungi to work with the teachers of The Door International Academy. We brought them teaching supplies and held teacher training clinics to demonstrate how best to use those supplies in the classroom. They also needed government certification and we are helped them with both. PROJECTS
We have decided that under our new banner we would focus first on the needs of the Lungi school. Teacher Certification: The cost was approximately $2,500 for their five teachers to study and get their government certification. They have attended during two summers and obtained their certification during the following school year. There are photos in the picture gallery at signpostmissionworks.org
New school building: The school currently meets in the church sanctuary. This is a problem on two fronts; first, because they hold services each night of the week and the “classrooms” (areas of the sanctuary separated by partitions) must be disassembled each day after school and reassembled each morning before school begins. Second, the government is displeased that school is being held in the sanctuary of a Christian church. They need a separate school building and have developed architectural plans to that end. The estimated building cost is $80,000 USD.

It's Giving Tuesday! Signpost MissionWorks continues their work in Sierra Leone, West Africa, and what a year it has been in 2024!

We dedicated the new Godwin School campus in April; drilled a well and struck water which will supply both the school and the Rokel Village community; and we have paved the entire compound to protect the grounds from eroding during the rainy season.

For Giving Tuesday, we are asking for supplies for the vocational school. Would you consider buying a sewing machine, science lab supplies, a stove and oven for the culinary class, playground equipment for the children in the preschool and primary classes? How about a lap top for the computer class? When you make your donation, you can indicate what you would like it to go to (sewing machine, stove, oven, computer, lab equipment, etc.)

Thank you so much for participating in Giving Tuesday 2024!

It was so exciting to be a part of the celebration opening the Godwin Vocational School and primary school. Also, to see water sprout from the new well this week. As many of you know, water is life!

Today we got to see the new vocational school. Students were busy: some practicing for their final exams, some cleaning and painting, and preparing for the Grand Opening of the school on April 3. It was breath-taking to see it in person for the first time. We are so thankful for all our donors. More to come. Stay posted.

We have been in Sierra Leone for a few days now. Yesterday was a big celebration at the elementary school in Lungi. This was our first school build project and now we are bursting at the seams! What started out in a hut, then moved inside a small church, is now a school of a 165 students.
