The earliest homes in St. Leonards were buillt around 1906 as part of “The Ventnor Plan”. Many were built in the 1920s by Atlantic City hotel operator Emmanuel Katz

Governor Walter Edge had a house at Oxford and the Beach, which was rented to Irving Berlin at the time of the Lindbergh kidnapping because Irving Berlin felt his daughters would be safer in the Atlantic City area. Charles Lindbergh a

lso stayed at 6001 Ventnor Ave following a story about the possible whereabouts of his son near Atlantic City, which turned out to be a false lead. The home is presently owned by Louis Selgrath. John Wanamaker owned 10 lots on Atlantic from Dudley to Dorset, know as the Wanamaker tract. The white French Provincial home at the corner of Cornwall and Atlantic hosted Hubert Humphrey during the 1964 Democratic Convention.

17 S. Derby was owned by Francis Scott Key’s grand daughter, Anna Palmer, and the rear yard of the house till has the original carriage house with the original horse stalls. This home is presently owned by Gerald and Anne Corrigan. The movie “Wise Guys” was filmed at 6003 Boardwalk.
