Hey Everyone. Kelly and I have thankfully had some of a break from this project but now with schools starting up in New Jersey we are wondering if anyone knows teachers who need supplies, face shields or designs for desk shields?

Kelly and I have a podcast where we record episodes on topics I want to teach my daughter. Grant sat down with a good friend the other day and talked to him about being a young black American. I wouldn't normally cross post my creative work with this endeavor but I (Grant) feel it is important for people to hear and take part of honest, healthy discussions of race right now

It is important to have honest, straightforward race discussions for a healthy tomorrow.

Kelly and I support and . We attended the ac peaceful protest this weekend

If ANYONE is planning to attend peaceful protests this week or weekend and wants a face shield, ear savers, or a door handle opener. Drop us a message

We wore surgical masks and cloth on top. Stayed in open air spaces to avoid droplets in the air.

If you want a face shield to wear and stand in solidarity with our fellow humans we will alter the design to provide a more wind resistant shield

Drop a message with an address and I will mail however many needed

We together must strive for change. Sadly that means going out and being heard during a pandemic, so we both will help protect anyone who stands for equality

If you dont have a mask and want to go we will print as many Montana masks as we can as well. They take a very long time 6 hours per so if you need it tell us asap.

- personal note - grant had heard of the ac peaceful protest and started to rip boxes apart to make signs. Then had pause of "but pandemic" and after we discussed how to safely attend we went.

Update May 20th

This morning we mailed off 50 face shields to a nursing home in Keyport.

Now, with heavy hearts and mixed feelings we are no longer accepting COVID-19 related donations or supplies and will be winding this endeavor down into the next phase.

Grant was called back to work starting this coming Monday. Kelly has not yet but probably soon. We are going to keep printing until all supplies are out but we will not be purchasing more material unless a second wave causes the need.

Being that the face shields need to be reloaded every 34 minutes we have about 130 shields made already and ready for the second wave or a place in need.

We will shift totally to door handle pullers and ear savers because those can be printed in massive batches and take several hours.

It will impossible to print face shields when we both are working. We can set up a 10 door handles that take 16.5 hours or 13 ear savers that take 4.5 hours before we leave and monitor while at work to make sure it's going well from the camera.

The second phase of this is when all the donated money / supplies are used up we are going to start working with an organization to print prosthetics for children and animals.

Prosthetics are insanely expensive and take a very long time to make, classically. The 3d printing community have designed several open source prosthetics and we will happily accept donations or supplies for this next endeavor but it will take several weeks possibly months to get approved by the organization we are looking to join and make prosthetics for. This is why right now we will deny any further donations until the 2nd phase is ready.

Thank you everyone for the likes, shares, donations, and words of encouragement. It is certainly nerve racking to return to the work force but excited. Also we would never want to take advantage of the unemployment system and being called back to work there is no hesitation we must but with caution and masks.

If any place needs supplies we will absolutely do our best but making face shields when we both are called back to work full time would be almost impossible and we certainly have mixed feelings about not being able to make those starting next week. On one hand its wonderful that the demand has gone down that they are not needed (at the moment) but if the need arises again it will be very emotional not having the ability to do so./

Grant update

Saturday machine 1 went down. I did everything I could think of. It was printing 1 through 20 layers completely fine then under extruding, knocking and causing weak prints. We both tried all the tricks to no avail.

Took a break for the day because I was getting furious with the machine. Laying in bed I had a revelation possibly it was the heating cylinder. The wire got burned and was making a good connection on lower layers but when it raised the connection weaked and stopped heating consistently

Today I took the thermistor and heating cylinder out and replaced them and we just got a successful calibration print!
