Recently we have suffered the tragic loss of our dearest defender and keeper of the Hippie Chickies, Colonel Sanders affectionately known as Mister Rooster.
Raised here with the rest of the hippie chicks we are all proud of the selfless rooster he had become. Back in his chickie days he was known as Soldier, a small grey fluff of a chicken and sweet as could be yet still quite dignified as if he was already a crowing Chanticleer.
Soon after he learned to “sing” he was chosen out of a dozen other cockerels to stay and be promoted to Colonel Sanders. He did not disappoint us or his fellow hippie hens.
Never in the history of the Hippie Chickies have we had such a dedicated (and not psychotic) rooster as Colonel Sanders. He always took watch while his lovely ladies were eating and was always last to enter the coop for bed after rounding up his Henny Pennys. He was gentle to all who wanted to stroke his lovely mane of feathers (except maybe the dog) and he faithfully stayed in the backyard. His only flaw was he never took up our advice on voice lessons.
His last act was his heroic battle against… the hawk. He may have lost his life but he won the battle in keeping his hippie hens safe. And although he lived a short life of 3 years he lived a fulfilling and honorable one.
In loving memory of Colonel Sanders we ask that if you know a rooster, you thank them for their services for it is an under appreciated one. All the Hippie Chickies will miss you dearly Colonel.
