Lots of nest making and bird family themes lately during imaginative play. Our bird ID guides are always out on the table and the kids are tracking who visits us daily. We wonder which birdies live at the farm- we regularly see juncos, chickadees, towhees, robins, bald eagles, song sparrows, and lately we have seen a Goldfinch visitor :-) At snack time we have been brainstorming what birds (and all animals 🐛🐣🪿🐻🐸🐿️) might feel thankful for.... friends? Seeds? A strong branch for perching? Colorful flowers? A little leaf cup with some fresh rain water? ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you to all who purchased a wreath during our 5th annual wreath fundraiser! Thanks to your support, and an incredibly generous match donation, we were able to raise over $10k for this year's Tuition Assistance fund. This is a HUGE win for equity and access to nature-based learning and community! 🥳

As we celebrate, the work continues....! In preparation for opening enrollment in the coming weeks, we are now raising funds for the 2026-27 school year. We plan to raise $20k for next year's families.

Please consider our 501(c)3 nonprofit as you plan your end of year contributions; donations of ALL sizes make a significant impact for families!

Thank you for "voting with your dollars" for the thriving of Vashon's children and families! 💞 🍄🌲🌾🌈

Vashon, it's time to order your winter wreaths !! 🎄❄️☃️ Using ethically gathered fresh branches and parent volunteer work party power, this fundraiser is the perfect way to participate in the Vashon community magic of the holiday season. $50/wreath includes free delivery option + a little love note from the Huckleberry Kids! Each wreath purchased covers four days of Tuition Assistance for an island family.

The wreaths will be made on the weekend of Nov. 22/23, and will be delivered to you/ arranged for pick up in the days following. These wreaths are made on a bed of fresh moss, so a little spritz of water on the back side will keep the sprigs fresh through Spring!

All money raised benefits our Tuition Assistance Fund. This year we are providing over $20k in assistance for island families. Your participation in this fundraiser helps make that possible!

Two more days to take advantage of this $5k match challenge!!!

Now more than ever it is crucial to fund projects you care about. At Huckleberry we work tirelessly to ensure that all families who need financial assistance get the support that they need. We care deeply that our families and children all feel a sense of belonging in our community- and we refuse to let finances get in the way of that.

Make your tax deductible donation today and get a sweet snail mail sent to you from the huckleberry kids 💌🌱🌞

When we push for donations, it means there are families needing support right now. If you are interested in providing a match challenge of any size for future tuition assistance families, send us an email! [email protected]

This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming former Huckleberry Saturday Camp dad (and island storyteller) Stephen Shildbach, as he shared his new children's book with us:

Santiago's Woodpile
written and illustrated by Stephen Schildbach.

It was a sweet and curious story about a little mouse named Santiago who made their home in a cozy woodpile. Such a cute story, relatable to our nature loving learning community, and beautiful simple illustrations that were calming for our group. They were captivated.

The children immediately visited our woodpile after the book was finished-- searching for Santiago, or maybe some of their other mouse friends... no luck this time, but we did find some cool insects that call our woodpile home! "Do you know Santiago?"

Santiago's Woodpile can be found at !
