Hot Sauce is a free after school program that brings middle school age youth together to create community, play games, do fun projects, and cook (and eat) delicious food. Generously sponsored and hosted by Vashon's United Methodist Church, Hot Sauce is a non-religious offering to all of Vashon's middle-school age youth.

This year Hot Sauce is being facilitated by Director Nicky Wilks and Assistant Director Kristen Dallum. Cofounder of Vashon's Journeymen Institute, Nicky also teaches at VHS and the Harbor School. Kristen recently moved to Vashon to become McMurray's new art teacher and brings with her tons of experience with youth - especially the outdoors! We also welcome back Odi, our most consistent volunteer :)

We meet most Thursdays following the VISD school calendar from 3-6pm. McMurray students are encouraged to ride the bus to the Vashon Methodist Church - non-McMurray students should plan to arrive at 3pm. All students need to be picked up promptly by 6pm each day.

We ask that all students register online (click button above) before showing up so we can plan accordingly.

Hot Sauce is the awesome after-school program you've heard about that is sponsored by the Methodist Church.

At Hot Sauce you can expect to make great food, create fun projects together, play games, and connect to each other. Some of our future and current projects are movie-making, outdoor survival skills, and cooking!

We meet every Tuesday from 3-6pm at the church, right in town. Our participants from McMurray take the bus right to it, but all middle school age youth are welcome! (11-14yrs)

We meet at the church and are funded by the congregation's dedication to the Vashon community, and we are a non-religious program.

Hot Sauce is led by Ted Packard, who is currently writing in the third person. He's been an outdoor educator since moving to Washington in 2011. He works with Vashon Wilderness Program and Quiet Heart Wilderness School, and has years of experience with mentoring humans of all ages: preschool, elementary-middle school, teens, and adults! In his previous life in Virginia, he was a touring musician and history lover. He has a B.A in History and a M.A. in Education. He lives on island with his girlfriend and the best cat.
