With Gov. Tate Reeves’s signature of Senate Bill 2383 - the sweet potato will be the official state vegetable of Mississippi!

The small town Vardaman, Mississippi is dubbed the “Sweet Potato Capitol of the World”, producing around $82 million for the state according to Mississippi State University.

Mississippi Sweetpotato license plates are available to the first 300 applicants on June 16th and can be picked up at your county office.

They are available to the public on July 16th.

Everyone is invited. Calhoun County will host a Wildlife Tasting Buffet & Expo on Monday, February 10th, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. All wildlife dishes need to be at the Multi-Purpose Building before 6:00 p.m. and accompanied by the recipe if you plan to have them judged. The categories will be:
-Fin
-Feather
-Fur
-Deer
-Wild Hog
Program Speaker🎤🗣 is Dr. Jerome Goddard, MSU Extension Entomologist.
The program will be "Insects Affecting People in the Outdoors".
Admission will be free of charge if bring a wildlife dish, $2.00 if bring a side dish/dessert, and $5.00 if bring no dish.
