All,
We have a brother in need at Camp Pendleton. Danny Hopcus, a former member of our Vandenberg Hotshot Crew, has been dealing with major health complications following the government shutdown. While working on duty and assigned overtime, Danny suffered a massive heart attack.
As his chiefs work to have his condition recognized as work-related and properly placed under OWCP, Danny is currently in need of leave support. Any one of us could experience a major medical event and find ourselves in this same situation. Right now, Danny needs our help.
We are asking those who are able to please consider donating leave to help support Danny during this difficult time. Even one day can make a meaningful difference.
Please see the details below for instructions on how to donate leave.
Thank you for taking care of one of our own. In solidarity

For the widest possible distribution
Brothers and Sisters,
The Camp Pendleton Fire Department has a member in need of leave donations. One of our members, Danny Hopcus, suffered a devastating heart attack in November and remains hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center. He is currently fighting several infections and will likely require heart and lung transplants before he can leave the hospital.
While we are working to have his claim accepted by the Department of Labor under the presumptive law, the claim has not yet been approved. Danny has exhausted his leave, and we want to ensure that he and his family do not face the additional burden of lost income during this difficult time.
Please consider donating leave to Danny through the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (VLTP). To donate, complete the attached OPM 630-B form and email it to [email protected]. Please include a copy of your latest leave balance report from your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES). Alternatively, you may fax these forms to (760) 725-8418.
Coming together to support one another is one of our most important responsibilities as a Union. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Best regards,
