Little Yaksharaj was like any other child—full of curiosity and joy. But as he started school, a persistent pain in his hands began troubling him. Despite his family’s efforts to comfort him, the pain worsened, and he fell ill time and again. Due to their limited means and lack of awareness, they couldn’t find the right help.

A village doctor eventually referred them to a specialist in Kalol. After several tests, the cause of Yaksharaj’s suffering was revealed—he had sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder common in Gujarat’s tribal communities. The disease causes blood cells to become rigid and sickle-shaped, leading to severe pain, anemia, and other complications. With low awareness of the disease, many families don’t seek medical care in time.

For Yaksharaj, the only known cure was a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), where his unhealthy blood cells would be replaced by healthy ones from a matching sibling. But the cost, between 25 to 30 lakhs, was far beyond what his family could afford.

Hope came when a relative working at Muni Seva Ashram informed the family about the Kailash Cancer Hospital, where advanced treatments are provided under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This solved the financial challenge. Luckily, Yaksharaj’s sister Priya was a perfect bone marrow match, and under the expert care of Dr. Shailesh Lawana, the transplant was successfully completed.

Today, Yaksharaj is healthy and full of life. His transplant was the 138th successful procedure at Kailash Cancer Hospital, showcasing the hospital’s dedication to delivering world-class care to those in need.

By sharing Yaksharaj’s story, we aim to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and encourage families to seek medical help without delay. It also highlights the life-changing work being done at Kailash Cancer Hospital. By spreading the word, we can bring hope to others and ensure that timely help reaches those who need it most.

Charity Through Laughter
A Unique Experiment For Service To Humanity

Muni Seva ashram, a unique service provider in a rural Gujarat in a small village near Vadodara, where Anubhen Thakkar planted the seeds of service to humanity many years ago. Those seeds have now grown into giant banyan trees. Kailas Cancer Hospital and Research Center is the crown jewel og Muni Seva Ashram which provides state of the art cancer treatment. Apart from this, many other areas like EDUCATION, WOMEN WELFARE, JOB TRAINING, CARE FOR ENVIRONMENT and Eldercare etc. are serving a large population of needy people not only from Gujarat but also from M.P., Rajasthan & Maharashtra. Dr. Jagdish Trivedi visited Goraj Muni Seva Ashram with his family a few months back and visited all departments of the organization. He is a well-known comedian, writer, poet, thinker and noble social worker Dr. Jagdish Trivedi's humanitarian work has now spread all over the world. Gujaratis all over the world now know that Jagdish Trivedi has completed fifty years of his life and pledged to donate the entire income of his programs at home and abroad to promote health and education. It is highly commendable that Jagdish Trivedi does not even charge any fee. On visiting Muni Seva Ashram, he was very impressed. He presented a check of 11,00,000/- eleven lakh rupees to this organization on the same day. He was so moved by his visit that he is going to perform free programs to help raise funds for Muni Seva Ashram. The well-wishers of Muni Seva Ashram in USA & Canada are very happy and they have organized “Jagadish Trivedi’s Hasya Darbars” in various cities in USA and Canada.

Run by Solar Energy
World, Muni Seva Ashram uses solar energy for heating water, cooking meals, lighting, and ventilation demands on-campus.

Everyday, 31,000 liters of water is heated and used, through solar flat plate collectors, at the Ashram’s kitchens, guest houses and hospitals.

The Ashram has two Scheffler Dishes (10m2 each) at the Sharda Mandir school, used to cook meals for 200 students.

The Green Campus at Vankuva, home to Eklavya and Vivekanand Schools, lunch and dinner for 400 students is cooked using 10 Scheffler dishes (10m2 each) and thermic oil as a heat carrier. Box solar cookers and SK10/14 parabolic solar cookers are also used for domestic cooking and demonstrations.

Green Campus was being built, a 13KW solar power plant was installed to meet the lighting and ventilation demands of the schools and hostels.

Most of the street lights at the Ashram are automatic, self-contained solar photovoltaic systems (with panels mounted on the light poles)

Eklavya Model Residential School, Muni Seva Ashram, Goraj, Vanprastha Mandir, Bhagini Mandir, Parivar Mandir, 2 schools several volunteers worked tirelessly to bring the Ashram at the level at which it is today, including our world-class medical facilities.
