The Special Olympics mission remains as vital today as it did when the movement was founded in 1968.

Columbia River Area - Provides sports in Clark and Cowlitz County for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities from the ages of 2-7 (Young Athletes), and 8 and over (Traditional Programs or School Programs). Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving t

hem continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
