June is Dementia Awareness Month 🌿

This month, we join partners across Washington—including the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and the Dementia Action Collaborative (DAC)—in raising awareness, sharing education, and supporting families impacted by dementia.

Here in Southwest Washington, thousands of neighbors are living with cognitive change. When our community understands dementia, we create more safety, more compassion, and more moments of connection for everyone.

At HOPE Dementia Support, we’re proud to stand alongside DSHS and the DAC to expand brain‑health education, reduce stigma, and ensure that no family walks this journey alone.

💜 Together, we can build a more dementia‑friendly Washington.
If you or someone you love needs support, you are welcome here.

We’re heading back to the beautiful Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge for a peaceful afternoon of nature, connection, and community.

This visit includes time to explore the brand‑new Ridgefield Community Nature Center at the Carty Unit — a welcoming space with interactive exhibits, local history, and a chance to learn more about the wildlife that calls the refuge home.

Join us for:
A gentle walk
Time in nature
Friendly conversation
Opportunities to enjoy the spring scenery

This outing is designed for people living with dementia and their care partners. It’s a calm, accessible way to enjoy the outdoors together.

We hope to see you at the Refuge on June 24 and each 4th Wednesday through October!

Meet Me in Sarah's Garden— Summer Gatherings!
We’re excited to welcome you back to Sarah’s Garden for two peaceful, creative mornings this summer:

🌼 Thursday, June 20
🎨 Monday, July 15

Each session will include a simple, dementia‑friendly garden activity — something hands‑on, relaxing, and enjoyable for people living with dementia and their care partners. All supplies will be provided, and no experience is needed. Just come as you are and enjoy time together in this beautiful space.

🌱 We Could Use a Few Garden Helpers!
Sarah’s Garden thrives because of our community. We’re looking for a few volunteers who can help with light weekly watering and weeding throughout the summer. Even one week makes a difference.

If you enjoy being outdoors and want to support a peaceful space for our groups, we’d love to hear from you.

New Location for Our New Beginnings Bereavement Group

New Beginnings is moving to a new home — and we want to make sure everyone who needs this space knows where to find us.

Our New Beginnings Bereavement Group, created for care partners who have lost a loved one to dementia, will now meet at NAMI Southwest Washington.

This group offers a gentle place to land, connect, and heal with others who understand the unique grief that follows a dementia journey. Same heart. Same welcome. Just a new place to gather.

Today, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to protecting others continue to shape the freedoms we hold today.

At HOPE Dementia Support, we also hold close the families who carry these stories of service — spouses, children, friends, and care partners whose love keeps these memories alive.
May this day offer moments of reflection, gratitude, and gentle remembrance.

We remember. We honor. We hold their legacy with HOPE.
