Vancouver Barracks Military Association

Vancouver Barracks Military Association The VBMA strives to preserve and share with the community the military history of the Vancouver Barracks and the City of Vancouver.

What is the Vancouver Barracks Military Association? Several concerned veterans from the Southwest Washington, Portland area, founded the Vancouver Barracks Military Association in March 2010. Our concern was that as the U.S. military left the Vancouver Barracks and the property came into other hands, the long heritage of the Barracks would be lost. The Goals of the Vancouver Barracks Military Ass

ociation
The National Park Service now owns most of the land that made up the southern and eastern portions of The Vancouver Barracks. Their charter and duty is to interpret the past of places like the Vancouver Barracks to the public. However, we at the VBMA believe that a group, founded by veterans, with the deep insight only veterans develop in their years of service, can do adequate justice to interpreting the unique past of The Vancouver Barracks. Our aim is to open our own interpretive center on or near The Vancouver Barracks. We intend to interpret the entire 162 years of military history of the Barracks, its soldiers and their families. Because the 104th Division became such a part of the Vancouver Barracks, and there is no museum dedicated to their past, we also intend to interpret the past of the 104th Division as well.
