This game became a family affair as the Seattle Dirtdogs and Westside Jacks was full of father/sons in this one at the Pacific Rim men's fastpitch tournament.
From left to right, Kevin and son Kenny Rassmussen, Duane (Duey) and son Logan Christensen, Haven, dad Pat and son Ryker Sagdal, Tom Inglis with son's TJ and Noah Evans.
We did have another family group of father/son that were playing in the other game and that was Rickey and his son Riley Kolda plus the K-Club is a family-oriented team with other family members on it.
If you noticed, the Sagdal family had to have mixed emotions as their youngest son Ryker was playing with the Dirtdogs with Pat and Haven with the Westside Jacks.

Here at the Pacific Rim Men's Fastpitch this year, anything is possible.

It is not too often that you get the chance to play a game with your son where you can be the pitcher and your son catching for you.
But what is even better is that you and your son can switch positions and your son is the pitcher and you are the catcher.
Well that is what happened this weekend at Wallace Marine Park in Salem, Oregon.
One of the best catchers in Washington, Kevin Rassmussen had that opportunity this weekend as his son Kenny was his catcher, but it gets better Kevin and Kenny were able to switch spots and Kevin caught Kenny.

What a great time.

Some of you Oregon Fastpitch followers may know this pitcher on the mound. This is Ashley (Birdie) Birdsong-Rice.
Ashley was in Salem, Oregon this weekend pitching in the Pacific Rim Men's Fastpitch tournament.
Birdie pitched at Taft high school and then went to Bradley University.
Birdie pitches for the Grass Valley Greens out of California for a men's fastpitch team.
In 2020 Ashley was inducted into Bradley Universities Hall of Fame with still holding records at Bradley.
Birdies love for the game continues as she plays in men's and women tournaments.
Ashley's love of the game is off the field as she has "Birdie’s School of Fastpitch"; "I love doing lessons and teaching, and passing along the love and knowledge of the game,” Birdsong said.

Mother Nature took the win at this year’s inaugural Pacific Rim Men’s Fastpitch tournament at Wallace Marine Park in Salem, Oregon.
We managed to get through the pool play games on Saturday, but Sunday’s rain just wouldn’t let up. With players and umpires traveling five to nine hours, postponing until later in the day wasn’t an option.
K-Club went 3-0 in pool play to take 1st place, followed by Grass Valley Green’s in 2nd, Seattle Dirtdogs in 3rd, and Westside Jacks in 4th.
As always, Salem Parks and Rec, along with JAG Softball, did an outstanding job hosting, treating teams and families to a BBQ after Saturday’s games.
The tournament was a hit, with players aged 14 to 60 enjoying the weekend.
We’re keeping the competition level limited to help recruit and grow the game, especially by introducing high school and college baseball players to fastpitch.
Details for next year’s tournament will be out soon, as we gear up to return on Labor Day weekend in 2027 in Salem, Oregon.
So, teams interested, you can plan early for this event.

The men's fastpitch game is for those young and old. Pictured below is part of Seattle's Master team, Interbay coached by Charlie Bendock. Charlie has been a part of men's fastpitch long before most of us were even born.
Interbay played in the USA Softball of Washington as a tune-up for the Master Nationals coming up for them. Interbay plays in multiple Master Nationals. They will be competing in the 60, 65 and 70 and over Masters in the next few weeks.
As I have talked about the elder statesmen of men's fastpitch I have to give a shout out to Mark Seward over in Yakima who brought over to the Men's State fastpitch tournament PNW who by far was the youngest team in the tournament. The oldest player on the team other than Mark was 24. Youngest player was 18 years old for them.
Mark is working hard over in the Yakima area to keep men's fastpitch going. A few years ago, Mark started up a league working on getting the young kids that at one time played baseball and now have nothing to play getting them involved. Started out with a couple of teams and this year had four teams in their league with the youngest players at 16 years old wanting to play men's fastpitch.
So, like I said, men's fastpitch is for the young and old.

Thank you Mark and Charlie for being a key part of Men's Fastpitch.

After a weekend of playing USA Softball of Washington Men's State Fastpitch tournament, K-Club came out the winners going undefeated in the tournament going 5-0. Beating Westside Jacks in the championship game. Westside Jacks finished the tournament going 4-1. Finishing in 3rd place, both teams going 3-2 were the Lacey A's and Salty Dogs.
Seattle's Master team, Interbay and PNW out of Yakima rounded out the tournament.
Want to thank Jeff Hannan for setting up this State tournament and a shout out to Rickey Kolda, Pat Bucknell, Charlie Bendock, Mark Seward and Dewey Christianson for coaching and putting together teams for our men's tournaments over the season. Without these guys, we would not have men's fastpitch in Washington.
