Heart of Hope Ministries International Our mission is to embrace Romanian orphans, widows, and families in desperate need with the love of Christ, ease their suffering, and restore hope.

Heart of Hope began in January of 1991 when Debbie Marshall and Chuck Fox, her father, went to Romania to adopt a child for Debbie and her husband Dan. They immediately recognized there was far more to do than the adoption of one child. The dire needs of the children and entire families tore their hearts open. Debbie was successful in adopting, but that was only the beginning of what now has been

a twenty-four year journey. HHMI is registered in Romania as the non-profit corporate Fundatia, "Heart of Hope" and fully registered in the United States as a 501(C)3 non-profit as "Heart of Hope Ministries International." Through the decade of the 90s, HHMI focused on the critical needs of thousands of children in government placement centers through the distribution of food, medicine, and clothing. In addition, HHMI facilitated dental, therapy, optometry as well as construction and renovation teams. HHMI established a spiritual ministry program led by Romanian nationals to address the spiritual needs of children in placement centers and impoverished rural communities. Currently, Heart of Hope Ministries International operates the Camp of the Good Shepherd, and the Home of Hope transition home for young women leaving the state placement centers and those living below the poverty level. In addition, HHMI facilitates dental, medical, eye, pediatric therapy, renovation and construction teams. HHMI facilitates weekly Bible Clubs and distributes humanitarian aid to state placement centers and families in poor villages.

In addition to ministering to children and families in Romania, we also this Easter were able to bless an elderly care home. Our partner, Cati, has helped an Elder Care Facility get back on track with administrative requirements and resources. She suggested we come to bring a little Easter joy! There are currently 23 elders living out their last season at this facility. We found the staff caring and the patients incredibly happy to have visitors - many were so child-like in their joy at receiving an Easter decoration for their rooms and yummy dessert wafers they were able to have after lunch. Cati had us arrive at lunch time so they could enjoy some fellowship time before ‘nap time’!

We tried a new method of distribution in the village this year. The kids who came to camp last year or will come this summer were invited to the village park where they received the family care packages. Each care bag contained: 3 pair adult mens socks, 4 pair adult womens socks, 7 pair of childrens socks, shampoo, a kilo of rice, a kilo of pasta, spaghetti sauce, bullion cubes, soup seasonings, sweets, Easter sticker books, and Easter egg decorations and traditional Romanian Easter ‘Cozonac bread! Families received different numbers of bags depending on the size of the family. The kids are already SO excited for camp this summer!!

We ended the afternoon with the children from Turnu Rosu - Romanian volunteers from camp accompanied me and the kids are already asking about camp! There were 4 new children there today and asking many questions about what ‘camp is’. 😊

A message from Debbie:
Here are some photos of my beloved Volkswagen Passat at the mechanics. She is a 2004 Passat station-wagon I bought in 2006. She has been my reliable car for 20 years - minus a few flat tires and air-conditioning repair and normal maintenance expected. But, after almost 235,000 MILES she lost the transmission that cannot be repaired! Volkswagen does not make that transmission anymore and so we are in search of a ‘good’ used one, praying we can some how find one! My mechanic called to tell me to come say goodbye to her! We are searching and we shall see. She was our daily driver with better fuel economy than of course our 9 passenger vans and our pickup truck. And, of course so much easier for me to maneuver around the city. She took me over so many bumpy roads, to so many villages, to so many distributions, transported so many volunteers and kids, so many memories. I appreciate prayers for the provision of a good used transmission OR by the grace of God some other reliable transportation!
